Winston came inside after a few minutes outside, and I noticed red welts all over his chest and front legs -- I called six vets (mine, of course, was CLOSED) and only one helped, said to give him Benadryl and to watch for signs of shock.
I was wondering if he got into a patch of fire ants. He's not showing any pain or slowing down at all. This pic is of his armpit, they are really red and swollen and his other pit looks the same....

| Did he maybe eat something he was allergic to? I know one of my fosters had this happen to her when she was fed anything with carrots in it. |

| Oh my goodness....that looks painful. I would wash the area too just in case it is an allergic reaction to something he touched...that way you get the oil or whatever off his skin. |

| Thanks guys - I will definitely wash it, just in case, and I did feed him a carrot last night of all things! They appeared so suddenly and they're still not fading - but again, his energy is normal and he shows zero discomfort. |

They look like fire ant bites.
Where are you located in N. Carolina? Who did you get your pup from? |

We live between Swansboro and Morehead City in NC.
We found our little guy at a *gag* pet store. I HATE saying that. My husband bought him while I was looking for a breeder. The people at the pet store were selling him as a medium sized calm non-water dog. I figure we saved him from a possible humane society future. |
