I took the dogs out Sunday for a good run thru the fields for some conditioning for season and Zeus got a workout that I wasn't expecting
He found a covey of 4 quail out in the middle of nowhere. He stayed steady as a rock, even though one of them hit him in the face when I flushed them. I can't wait for Nov 1st. |
Just had to share this photo of Sascha from last month as Sascha is making the same face as Zeus:

Well, I finally got out for sharptail. Scout was great- well she chased the first 3 or 4 birds out of the country I guess that is what I get for focusing all my time on agility The funny thing about those wild birds though, they taught her a lesson pretty quick. After a rocky start she had several great finds. The birds were sitting tight--I found a field too small for all the shorthair guys on horses to bother with
I would love to post some pictures of birds but the truth is I emptied a whole box of shells and have nothing to show for it. I'm not really the best shot Oh well, then I'd have to eat them. Scout was a little ticked though, she sure loves to retrieve!
Here is Scout on point, making the same face as Sascha and Zeus.
Actually had to use the zoom on this one, thats pretty good range for Scout

| These are great. I can't wait to see the results of the upcoming season. I think we should post all hunting pictures here. |

Hi everybody! Well...unfortunately I don't have any pictures with a dog. After August, I've been preparing for my archery elk hunt.
Guess what...it paid off! To make a long story short, I had an awesome hunt and I shot my first elk with a bow. It was a 42 yrd. shot and I had an artery hit, so we had a great blood trail that only lasted about 350 yrds. and we found the animal. For those of you that are interested I will PM pictures.
To say I was excited was an understatement. Now it's time for quail season and I hope to be heading out tomorrow for some Gambles.
-Wish us luck! |

He does, and vice versa! They are a great team. I live close to Chris now so see them all the time. It's great to be able to be able to take Pixy out training. She is so very very talented.
Did you know Riley is with them for a couple months? He is loving Camp Williams. Manged to hog up their bed within the first week, in typical Weim style. Chris loves Riley also, Riley is a "man's dog" for sure, loves to rough house and all that. |
If Chris mentioned that on the list, I missed it. Oh, that's great. I love that Riley took the bed over. Aw, him and Chris will have an awesome time together. I can tell by the way he talks about your dogs that he loves them.
Keep the pictures coming. |

Nope he didn't mention it on the other list. Riley's a real clown. He's enjoying being with the girls and taking over the whole household as if he owns the place -- but then again he IS a Weim. LOL |

Well, it wasn't a great day, but it was a beautiful day. Took Luna out for her first actual hunt and we got nothing... No points, no birds in the bag. We saw birds, 2 roosters, 5 hens, but no points and no birds in the bag. Oh well, it was worth the walk and the experience for the little one. We'll give 'er hell again another day. Here's a couple of pix from the day Thanks LunaBrown!
Here's one of Luna and I.
I love photography because it looks like a point, but it's not...

Not a bad opening day. Found a covey of about 30 bobwhites right off the bat. Took one out of them. Then started hunting singles. Had 9 finds. Shot 6 birds. Athena's due before long, so I just ran Zeus and Zephyr. Zephyr did pretty well. Had a few backs, a divided find and 2 all on his own. Here are a few pics.
Divided find
Zephyr's first find
His second find
And here are a couple of Zeus.

Pheasant Season opened here in Kansas yesterday, but man was it too hot. We had 70 degree weather so Kas and I didn't even go out! My friends husband only got one bird and he smoked it and boy was it good. Here is a pic from last year. We only took Kas out once. My dad got all the birds...I am a bad shot when it comes to flying birds...I still need lots of trap practice. Here is a picture of the young jake I shot back in May. I am still trying for my fall turkey as well...gonna go back out in a few weeks now that some of the crops are cut maybe I can find a big gobbler!

H2O I'm coming to your house! I think we flushed the last covey in VA about two years ago and the only way we have doubles is if we plant them that way.
Tip for planting coveys, since that seems to be what ruins us at trials...put 8-10 birds in a pillowcase and give it ten good swings in the air, then just dump 'em in some cover. They'll hold tight. No more than ten swings or they get a bit dazed, and any less and they walk away. Also works for one or two birds. |
