Since I have nothing better to do on my afternoon off I've been researching Taste of the Wild and other foods. I found a bunch of reviews for Taste of the Wild and now I'm a little concerned... http://www.rateitall.com/i-982882-taste-of-the-wild.aspx Some of the people said that after feeding TOTW for a few months their dogs got runny poo and started getting very gassy. This seems to have been Zehen's problem. He started out just fine, and recently- in the last month or so he's had diarrhea on and off or he's been constipated and gassy. I'm wondering if I should just try a new food. Worst case is I put him back on the TOTW.
His problem is that he's so allergic to everything. His skin was great on the TOTW (recently he's been having the folliculitis around his nose and lips- maybe the food? who knows...) but his digestive system sucks. He needs to be on a fish formula. Any ideas? I was looking at Solid Gold but I hate the fact that it's salmon meal.
I'm thinking about switching to Natural Balance, http://www.petco.com/product/13791/Natural-Balance-L-I-D-Sweet-Potato-and-Fish-Dog-Food.aspx Problem is, it's very low protein, very low fat- I'm wondering if Zehen, who's a hard keeper, will be able to keep his weight up on this. Anyone have any luck?
Blah- I wish i could just find Wellness CORE ocean formula in my area, then he'd be on that! Anyone know any websites online that offer free shipping? |

| Where do you live? I order Wellness Core from dogfooddirect.com. They have low shipping cost and fast shipping, especially in the midwest. |

| FWIW, I switched Enzo to Blue Buffalo Wilderness not too long ago and he's doing great on it. Loves the stuff. Which is awesome. Not too expensive, either. |

| I am in the same boat. Horrible skin issues, missing hair....just put him on Natural Balance after Avoderm broke him out. So frustrating. |

How is the natural balance working so far? I've read good and bad things about it. There were lots of recalls on it last year, so I'm not sure... I need to find something soon. I'm getting to a good point in this bag of TOTW to find a new food. |

Have you checked the store locator on their website? Pet supplies plus carries it here.
Darby is doing awesome on the core ocean. I'm so glad I tried it! |

I agree that the Wellness Core is worth a try. We recently changed to that, just to try grain free. If you have a store that carries other Wellness, but not the Ocean Core, you might check and see if they will order it for you. One of the places we can find Wellness here is at feed stores...
Another to try if you can't get the Ocean Core might be Nature's Variety Salmon Meal and Brown Rice.

It has only been two weeks. As far a hearing bad things, I have heard things about so many of thr foods, that it becomes very confusing. I had him on Nutro and he was doing well, but I heard so many horrible things so I changed to Natural Balance by recomendation. I just don't know what to do. |

Wooo hooo!!!! The food search ends. I found wellness CORE ocean formula in the LAST place I thought I would find it. There's this pet store called "The Pet Supermarket" that's kind of cheap looking from the outside, sure enough there it was. I'm going to try Zeh on that and see how it goes.
My vet tried to talk me into feeding him science diet sensitive stomach... I told her "I'm not going to feed my dog that CRAP." She laughed at me. |

I rep for NB and I know of the recall on the canned edibles because they had lid issues--it's HUMAN GRADE FOOD canned in a USDA plant.
The other recall I was aware of was the venison and rice which is now a new formula of venison and sweet potatoe. The new lamb and rice is also new and they use brown rice....
My weims did so well on after I needed to switch them from another recalled food that I decided to become a rep for them..(They eat SP/Fish currently) |

If this wellness CORE doesn't work for Zeh I'm going to go to Natural Balance. |

| Wow I guess I missed something, but what's the problem with salmon meal? We live on salmon here and Leshiy gets cooked salmon leftovers (what little there are - carefully examined for bones of course)... |
