The good (?) thing is winter is around the corner and if you live in the part of the country where it gets cold the little booger heads will hunker down and hibernate, and all the pups will get a nice reprieve until spring. When you get to do it all over again.

In some places it's actually against the law or city ordinance to "harass" squirrels. YES I know... the statute here actually reads "harass". You should put a call in to your local humane department. They will send someone out with a trap and set it for you. When you catch something- you call them back and they come out to pick it up.

We have a problem like that. Our problems are a little bit bigger in size and stay on the ground. We must have 50 rabbits running around in our neighborhood. There are two or three that stay in our yard. Charlie will walk from the back door to the front door all day long. One will even sit on the other side of the fence knowing that they can't get to it.

OK, let's get technical. Hibernate or not you see them way less in the winter. As a whole we are out less in the winter, as are our dogs. Problem not solved, but abated. So at the end of the day we're happy.
Let us keep our illusions.

Where I live, I see them even MORE in the winter, as they seem to all move in closer to the houses, from the woods, so they can raid everyone's bird feeders And they sure are out and about too, unless it is super cold, like below about 20 degrees daytime.

My grandfather used to vasoline all of the poles on the bird feeders-I guess this provided him some kind of amusement since he could never get rid of them.

I think I see less of mine because is rains all the times for weeks at a time and they stay up in the trees. I see them cross the wires from one side of the road to the other occasionally and that's about it. I am happy for the reprieve none the less. Furry little devils.

LOL We dont have very many squirrels here. When we first moved in they were EVERYWHERE!! But between my son with his deadly aim with the pellet gun and the dogs (yep they have gotten really good at catching them. In fact Pansy knows how to knock them out of small trees!!) we dont' have nearly as many as we used to.
If you cant be seen by neighbors I suggest a pellet gun. They are almost silent.
Yeck I won't eat squirrel! I remember when I live in WV we had some cases of Jacobs Krutchfeld (really the same as Mad Cow) disease. Come to find out people were eating squirrel brains.

Back in the '90's, I lived in Pine Hill NJ..not as rural as it sounds Anyway, Ed and I used to go walk around this corporate center lake that wasn't too far from our house. There was a sign that read "Do not molest the turtles". Eddie was young, maybe 10...and asked me how do you molest a turtle??? I laughed til I cried. Couldn't they have said, "Please do not touch the turtles??.

The little bugger is smart. He can jump to about 6 different trees and a bush to make a huge circle in the yard. The dogs just go crazy!!! The little *poop* took a nap on the play fort the other day. He has the most annoying bark to him too. Its so loud you can hear it inside the house! Terrorist Squirrels, I should write a comic!
I think it must be the Iowa squirrels, we have one that will lay on our 6 ft wooded fence and flip his tail sunning himself while my boys are inside whining at him. The sec I open the door the boys go tearing across the yard jumping up on the fence just as the squirrel jumps on a low tree limb. Once they ran and jumped so fast that they knocked the squirrel INTO the yard he was a goner. We have replaced 2 fence panels since we got the boys last year, and repaired many. The acorns get thrown from the trees in the fall and we have no grass around the big oak tree in the back yard from the boys doing circles trying the climb the tree.
Our neighbor payes his middle school aged son $5 a chipmunk to trap them maybe I can pay him per squirrel

I thought it was funny that a squirrel commercial showed up when I clicked on this topic, lmao. The squirrels in Denver always run across the telephone lines in the alley and bury their peanuts in our gardens only to forget they buried them there.

LOL well we both live in Cedar Rapids, maybe it's the same squirrel. LOL, I hear the male squirrels keep a territory of anywhere from 1-7 acres. Learned this while considering trapping them and replacing them. That's some serious ground here in town!
