I decided to try to give Canidae one more chance. This time, I am mixing the new formula with the old formula (1/2 and 1/2) for an entire bag to see how it goes. If nothing else, it will stretch out the last bag of the old formula that I have! It's been 3 or 4 days so far, and although pooh is not as firm as it has been, it's not runny puddin' poops, which is good.
I'm hoping that I just didn't give the new formula enough time--and I certainly didn't do 1/2 and 1/2 as if I were switching to an entirely different brand. We'll see how this goes....
I'm sort of anxious to try the grain free flavors...well...not for ME, of course....for the DOGGIES!!

| I hope you have better results than I did with the new blend of Canidae. I gave the new formula 3 months to work and it did not settle with my dogs at all. I knew it was time to change. Good Luck! |

We still use Canidae with no problems. Silkie wouldn't eat the new formula though. She just wouldn't so she gets Jake's grain free. We tried Taste of the Wild's brand. They love it. So now we are buying Canidae, Wolfking Salmon Bison, Wellness Core and Taste of the Wild. Along with the Wellness Core canned and Solid Gold Tripe and Merrick's Tripe. Good thing we get a deal on Dog food. |

| I bought the new formula of Canidae and Gracie has been eating it for about 2 months. She loves it and has had absolutely no problems with this food. She never ate the old formula and I bought this bag before I read all the problems some dogs have had with the new formula. Anyway, since it works for Gracie, I'm going to stick to it! |

It really is good dog food--good ingredients and a good price! And when my store told me they would soon start carrying 44 lb bags of the new formula (we had been buying 40lb bags of the old) I decided to give it another try. I really WANT them to do well on it. I hope they do.
The thing that ticked me off about the new formula was that they also discontinued the 40 lb bags. All the other dog foods mentioned here come in even SMALLER bags (28 lbs, 30 lbs, and 33 was the largest I think). With FOUR LARGE DOGS, I would be running to the store once a week! (I usually buy 2 or 3 40 lb bags.) So when I saw that they were coming out with 44 lb bags, I was even more inclined to give the new formula a try. We're keeping our fingers crossed it works out.

| Well, it started out ok mixing the old and new formula 75/25, but once I got to 50/50--I started having problems. 3 of my 4 dogs got the runs really bad. As much as I hate to do it, I think I need to throw in the towel on Canidae!! |

| Bansheel~ what blend of Canidae were you feeding? I've always used All life Stages. But when the new formula came out, they had problems with diarrhea. Wondering if maybe the new Chicken and Rice formula may be better. I too am just sick of the fact that my dogs had the problems. I felt so confident with the food. Now having to switch foods, which I have switched to Natures Recipe Venison and Rice, I'm not so sure I want to stay with this food. |

It's funny...I switched TO Canidae from Nature's Recipe--mainly because some of their product was caught up in the pet food recall. Also, there were so many raving reviews for Canidae on here--and it was actually less expensive than NR!
I had been feeding All Life Stages--again, mainly because it rated much higher (5 star) than either the chicken and rice or lamb and rice (4 star). I never tried either of those, but I can tell you, this new formula is just not working out. I thought it was ok mixing 50/50 with the old formula, but eventually, it didn't agree with them either. In a pinch, I bought some Pinnacle, but it also is not rated that high on the pet food analysis (4 star)website. I hate to put so much faith in that website--but it seems logical and rational and not promoting any "brand" of food.
I think I may try Wellness Core, but with 4 dogs, it's quite pricey. I also considered the grain-free Canidae--but I'm not sure I want to take the chance again with Canidae.
Good luck with the Nature's Recipe. |

just my 2 cents..
hooch did great on the old canidae.. and after a week or so on the new formula, it was mushy poop, bad breath, gas.. the works..
he is now on a 50/50 blend of wellness super 5 and wellness core.. and he is doing really well.. but if canidae went back to their original formula, i'd probably switch him back.. |

| I posted about my weim and my efforts to control IBS and food issues. Canidae is the best kibble for my dog. I went from flareups every few days to every couple of weeks. For awhile, he didn't have a flare up at all! So, even though it isn't working out for him, he did do best on Canidae out of all the better dog foods I tried. |
