|
|
Hello all. This is my first post but I have lurked for quite a while. We have a four month old Weim named Piper and love her to bits!!!
But, about 3:00 this morning Piper threw up in her bedtime crate. Since I was half sleeping I put Piper in her other crate and put the bedtime crate outside to be dealt with in the morning. So, this morning I take her outside and check out the mess and it looks like she threw up a round worm. She's been wormed and is completely up to date on her vaccinations.
Interestingly enough, yesterday we found a pile of vomit in the yard and she tried to eat it. She's hardly if ever left outside without supervision because of her love of digging so we are not sure when that would have happened. Also, on our last potty of the night last night I thought I heard her wretching. Then she ran like crazy and grabbed some "rotten" veggies off of either a cucmber or tomato plant.
So, what do you guys think? Could she have injested a round worm last night and then threw it up (with leaves??)? We haven't noticed anything suspect in her bm.
Sorry for the long winded message and that this has to be the way that we meet.
Thanks |

| I would have her ckecked for worms at your vet's office. Sometimes the HW meds can miss some of the worms. |

I doubt if she would have eaten a worm and threw it up. Get a stool sample and take it into the vet. If she throws up again, take that too. Make sure you tell then that you saw worms. When they do the fecal exam they are looking for larvae/eggs that aren't always there. I can't tell you how many times I've taken in a stool sample with worms in it and the lab tech tells me the test was negative.
Now, I just tell them to "look" at the stool and don't charge me for the fecal exam. |

Thank you. How is it that within days of being at the vet something else comes up? Kind of like taking my car to the shop and then having something else happen
I will call the vet on Monday.
Thanks again.[/img] |

Luna had a severe case of undiagnosed roundworms when she was a little puppy - they missed the worms in 3 or 4 different fecal tests. They finally figured out it was round worms when she threw one up at the doggy hospital
Take the puke in to the vet with you so they can see it along with a stool sample.. It is nothing to mess around with.
They told us that if she was puking worms up that means they had likely made it into her resporatory system and she was puking them up because she was swallowing them!
I don't mean to scare you, but this was our unfortunate experience. |

Yikes. So, I just called the vet on a whim to see if they were open and they were. The receptionist is going to check with the vet and call us back.
Thank you for all of your advice. I will be sure to download some pictures of Piper and do a proper introduction. |

| Intestinal Parasites don't show up in every single fecal sample. So it's possible that the last time she had a fecal sample done she was positive for round worms and they weren't there in the sample the vet got. Heartworm prevention isn't 100%, but if she does have worms and she is on a prevention that's supposed to prevent those worms, your vet should be able to put you in touch with the company and they will give you a refund, or send you some product for free. This is only the case if you buy the product through your vet though- online pharmacies aren't guaranteed. |

I would also take to the vet for a check.
Just a reminder. Tomatoe plants are "toxic" to dogs. The leaves and stems are very toxic and the green tomzatoes are toxic but not as toxic as the stem and leaves. There has been a dog die from eating a whole tomato plant. Be careful with the gardens all.
