Does anyone have weims without issues?
Chewing, digging, stealing, trash picking, nipping, rough play, and many more.
these are just a few of the issues our little terrors have!
We don't have any potty issues, thank goodness |

I guess to me "issues" have something to do with how you define them.
I would say I have a Weim without issues but you might not agree. He will chew appropriate things to death (his toys or things we give him - empty water bottles) but he doesn't steal or counter surf and he will play rough if we play rough. We also still have the odd "puppy burn" at night or howling session but how can you blame him when we are chasing him or barking and howling like crazy people I want a dog not a statue and his howls are hilarious. |

Well, my two girls are 7 years, and almost 8 years. Issues? I suppose someone else could find lots of them. But to me, they are perfect. No chewing of anything but their toys. No counter surfing. Best dogs I have ever owned off leash. All of which has been the case since they were about 2 years old. Yeah, they are still so crazed to see me when I get home, even after an hour gone, that I have to watch out they don't take my knees out, and even then, sometimes they do. But I have no desire to own a dog that doesn't much care whether I am here or not. They are total bed (actually waterbed) hogs. But that is my choice, to have them in my bed, snuggled up against me.
As far as any "accidents" in the house, there are none, and have not been for many years. If one of my girls has a so called "accident" indoors, I know it is time to call the vet, because my girls will wait more than 12 hours, if there is any physical way for them to do so. And no, I do not ever routinely expect them to wait this long, but they will.
I have owned a lot of dogs in my lifetime, as I have never owned just one at a time. And these are my first two Weims. I can honestly say my girls have far less issues than any previous large breed dogs I have owned. I discovered that Weims are the love of my life, after spending almost 20 years with another breed. I only wish I had paid attention to Weims more , when I was at endless dog shows. But I thought they were just another "big ole huntin' dawg" that followed their nose, and didn't pay much attention to their owners. So I hardly paid them a second glance at all those dog shows I went to with my first breed.
Issues? Oh yeah, I have one really huge issue with both my girls. They won't live nearly long enough! Since they are now both officially "senior Weims", every day, I think about the fact that they won't be around forever. |

When I saw this, I just had to reply, especially after the weekend. First, my daughter and I have two Weims, Jude 1 year and Lucy 6 months. There isn't one of those so called "issues" that our two don't have plus some. They are true Weims from the get go, plus they are still puppies. Jude loves to get in the trash. It doesn't matter what I do. I ended up throwing the trash lid away in the trash the other day because of trying to protect the trash lol. Lucy is the Princess of Counter Surfing. She is tall enough now to get all the way up past the counters and up to top of the microwave so it doesn't work to put things up there anymore . I never knew a dog of any kind would love to play fetch so much outside or inside. It doesn't matter. Jude could play fetch for hours, When outside, Lucy stalks him like a wild cat pouncing on her prey. Lucy doesn't like to play fetch at all, but she will do anything to keep Jude from playing fetch because she wants all the attention herself. There are some times where I feel so sorry for Jude because when she attacks him on the way back, they wrestle around for a while before she may let him bring the ball back. The bad thing is when they are playing rough, they seem to find out wherever you are at trying to chase each other. I have been knocked off my feet several times. I was telling my neighbor today that I felt like I was the "brick wall" and they are like two "wrecking balls" because they are so involved in rough housing that they don't even see that they are coming straight at you full force. The thing is they would never ever hurt me on purpose. I never would had dream that I would have two (now three) that follow me constantly around whether I am doing house chores or going to go potty. If I try to close the bathroom door, Lucy will jump on it because she can't handle it if she can't see me. I got my daughter a new comforter for her bed. It is nothing new for Lucy to go lay in the middle of the bed chewing on a toy. We saw Lucy go in there with a toy, but for some reason, she seemed to quiet. My daughter and I both looked at each other at the same time and we rushed into the bedroom. Her comforter was in shreds with the stuffing all over the place. Whatever possessed her to do that, we have no idea since she had a new toy a couple of feet away from her on the bed too. Our Weims have committed so many "Weim Crimes" that we have lost count. Ohhhh, I almost forgot about these 3 things that happened in two days. I had some cash folded up and put on the top of her kennel. A while back my daughter and I were painting her living room so we locked the dogs in the bedroom while we painted. Paint and Weims just don't mix if you know what I mean ;P. Anyway, the kennel was in the bedroom too. Lucy got ahold of the cash and tore it into little bitty pieces. It wasn't like that could be replaced Then that same night, she clawed the newly painted door in the bedroom. During that time, she somehow tore the phone cable from the wall and proceeded to run down the wall with it tearing the new paint off. When I was leaving the next night after finishing the living room door, I guess Lucy was trying to come after me and she clawed the front door too. They also chewed up some dirty clothes that I had waiting to go out in the laundry basket. We have also had a few digging problems, I can't use top soil in the backyard, otherwise, my bushes and plants are dug up in a matter of minutes. These are just ones that have happened lately that I can think of off the top of my head that have happened lately. I am just sitting here smiling because I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world even after all the destruction. I just got another Weim from an animal shelter this weekend because they were getting ready to put her down and I couldn't bear the thought. If I told you everything I have been through since I picked her up, I think that you would think that I was nuts and not her. Let's just put it like this, she put a big dent in my bank account, after destroying my home, car and huge vet bill. I wish I had my camera and could take a picture of her right now. She is laying on the couch on her back with her legs up in the air and her head twisted. and looking at me. Now, how could I stay mad at that cute little girl??? PS I puppy sat my daughter's friend's Weim this week and I have over 14 bites from her razor sharp puppy teeth. I have more Weim wounds than I do from things that happened to me my whole life. I think they give me character |

Most people that meet Derek think he is strange because he isn't "weim like". I think he doesn't have issues because we exercise a ton.
He will do anything though to get at the cat food |

I would have to say like a previous responder that "Issues" are relative. Having a Weim and a Springer Spaniel and at one time a Beagle too, these are dog issues. The degree to which they are issues for the human members of the pack are entirely relative to the perceived magnitude of the offending behavior.
Right now I would say Udo does not have issues. Does he bark in the house, yes but only when he wants something like dinner, go outside or throw the toy. Counter grazing, only if pumpkin pie is involved otherwise that is Augie's domain. Chewing, only their toys. Roughhousing, mostly with each other. Udo and Augie play King of the Bed occasionally complete with gnashing and vocalization not unlike the video posted by another member.
We simply don't give them too many opportunities to misbehave. The Kennel was Heidi proof to prevent escapes and the house armored to keep Schatzie from chewing the siding off. They don't leave the family room without escort, most of the time. The garbage cans have been beagle proofed. After 30+ years, my dogs have me trained. |

| I have a 10 month old female. The only real problem I have with her is that she torments our little dog to no end. I know she just wants to play but I am sure it is painful for a little 15 lb dog to get trampled and mauled constantly. I think Bella, the weim, is real smart. She does not have accidents in the house. As a matter of fact, she has learned to let herself out of the house. If I leave the back door open she can open the storm door with her nose and go out. She listens well most of the time. She is very lovable and loves attention, especially from strangers. She doesn't bark or howl. My little dog is the alarm dog. Nothing comes near the house without her letting us know. |

It looks like he is about to get bit but Layla really just pushes him with an open mouth. We can't get her to stop. I promise Layla isn't furrotious at all. It is all a game to her, but our Yorkie is 13 years old.. He just can't take it... We have to keep a close eye on the situation.
