Nice shots. Pet photography sounds like a lot of fun. Can't wait to see some more pics. Smile

That is totally funny you listed the canon rebel Xsi...we just checked one out yesterday while trying to find out what was wrong with our canon power shot s1si. We absolutely loved the rebel. We also use nothing but canon printers here. Love, love, love the quality of the pictures. Did you buy the bigger package rebel with the larger zoom lense? We are kinda going back and forth on the two offered at the camera store. The basic package or the zoom lense. The price is kinda making us stall for a bit. We would be eating ramon noodles, watching Wyatt still eatting his high price kibble, and trying to save for the bigger canon package! HA HA...but if your pictures look like that, I am definately sold on a rebel!!!

I bought the one with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. I hear you about eating Ramon noodles.... that's what we will be eating for awhile! Laughing That's okay though - they're yummy. I bought it at Circuit City online. They had the lowest price I could find from a "reputable" place. Here's the link if you're interested. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Canon-Digital-Rebel-XSi-12-2-Megapixel-Digital-SLR-Camera-18-55mm-Lens-Black-REBELXSI1855K/sem/rpsm/oid/205977/catOid/-16942/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

I also bought this book so I can really learn how to use it. http://www.amazon.com/David-Buschs-Canon-Digital-Photography/dp/1598635786/ref=pd_bbs_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222920064&sr=8-4

The pics that I posted were mostly taken on the automatic setting. So far I have no complaints about this camera... well - except that I already want to buy more lenses! I wouldn't even be able to afford Ramon if I bought any right now though!

Very nice! I love action shots, they're the best.
Ok, spill it, what kind of camera did you buy? The inquiring mind of another photography buff just needs to know. Laughing

I'm going to try to open a small side business... pet photography. Mostly for fun, but we'll see where it goes. I'm going to make a website with a portfolio. If people like what they see they can hire me -- I will be way cheap compared to a "real photographer." Maybe I can make some cash doing something that I love. You guys have inspired me to give this a try. So thanks for all of your compliments! I have my first "job" in a couple of weeks. Only it's with people, not dogs.

I wish you the very best of luck in your endeavor. It doesn't get much better than when a dream or hobby becomes so much more. I wish I could follow similar footsteps, but I get hung up in insecurities. I do not show anyone my pictures but you guys and of course mom,and she is always willing to pat me on the head and say good job. Laughing I can't wait to see more of your work. Yea! How exciting!!!!!!!!!!

Get an account on Flickr (it's free) and start posting pics and putting them in some of the dog groups. You can get a lot of great feedback and learn from some amazing photographers. A year ago I would have been saying the same thing that you are right now. Flickr has been a wonderful learning tool and great for my confidence. If this is something that you're passionate about then I think you should pursue it. I wish I would have done it 10 years ago. I was going to go to school for photography, but I talked myself out of it... thinking I wouldn't be good enough... blah, blah, blah.

Now I'm older and wiser Rolling Eyes and realize that life is too short. Just go for it!

My SO got me the Rebel for my birthday last month. I love it. I am researching different wireless flashes to get and some backdrops, etc. It's an addiction once you have it, you want to buy all the accessories for it. Every addition makes your shots that much better. I am asking for gift certificates for xmas this year so I can get more items.

I had an account at Flickr for a while, before I had Taren. I ended up dumping it in order to make it easy on my mom and switched to Picasa Web Albums. Maybe it IS time to go look around again, if for nothing else some good ideas. Thank you for the pep talk!

Wow those are great pictures. That is awesome that you are going to start a business doing what you love. I also love photography and wish I could do it for a living.
