My pup is about 3 1/2 months old and has a round spot where the hair has fallen out on the tail and also one on the body.
Anyone know what causes this? |

| And if it is, You need to get him checked out for it ASAP! He will infect your entire household, People and all. Not fun trust me. I just had a friend go thru this. |

My 1 yr old Weim had exactly this, it turned out to be mites which were non contagious to other dogs or humans. They gave me a 45 day supply of liqid "Ivermectin". All loos of hair in spots are gone and coat is beautiful and soft.

Take him in for a skin scrape. That will help you get an answer. |

| Zuna got ringworm when she was about 3 months old. Vet gave me some conofite cream and it cleared up in about 2 weeks. I caught it early beforre it got really bad- other cases can take longer to clear up. |

we are dealing with mange... the not-so-contagious version... not all are going to jump to everyone else in your house, but some will.
it is a couple of bare spots on her butt.
i think we also have ringworm... on her ears.
it takes up to 30 days for the culture to come back on those.
for those wondering and without the back story, no, im not a bad guy... these are on the foster we brought in 2 weeks ago.

I just got back from the vet. They did a skin scrape on him and determined it was ¨Demodectic Mange¨. They are these mites that are not contagious to humans or other dogs, it's just that since he's a puppy he has an inmature inmune system and this allows the mites to grow more rapidly. The vet wants us to get 6 Mitaban dips--- whole body dips done in the hospital (sulfoxydel shampoo) and Mitaban solution. He basically has to be in there for a whole day (8-5) and it has bad side effects like vomiting, diziness, etc. I dont wan't to do this.... and I was wondering if anyone had the same mange and has another treatment like the Ivermectin you said Baxmeister. Did your vet recommend the dips also, or is this vet just trying to get all these money from us!?!?!?!? |

Heidi has this.
We are 2 weeks into treatment.
She is 71 lbs and about 5 years old.
She is getting 1.3 cc of Ivermectin daily - she HATES it.
We are also bathing her twice a week in Chlorhexidine Shampoo.
That is all we are doing for now. It is supposed to take quite some time to get rid of, but we dont have any plans for dips, etc. |

I would check with another vet about giving the Ivermectin. It is a WHOLE lot cheaper than the dips and IMHO a lot more effective in treating Demodex.
BTW this dog should never be used for breeding. Demodex is a sign of a weak immune system which would be passed on to his puppies.
I have treated rescues with Ivermectin and had no problems with it. LOTS cheaper too! |

| I agree with CherrystoneWeims 100%- get a second opinion, get him on ivermectin and NEUTER HIM!!! Him having to stay a whole day in the vet hospital scares me, because as said before, demodex is a sign of a weak immune system. Who knows what goes in and out of your vet that is contagious! Also- if he needs any shots anytime soon, hold off giving them till he is treated. Once he gets demodex once, he'll be likely to get it again, so make sure you watch his skin closely for any changes. |

Actually he may never get it again. Dogs usually get it when they are going through puberty with hormonal changes. The hormone changes really stresses their system. Neutering can also help prevent a reoccurance. |
