Hmmm, I never heard of it myself. Cloud was on Authority puppy formula from the get go. I think there's a wheat free version of it. He said that all of the fur kids were fed that at his dad's house. |

Well, Cloudybear is getting better it seems. His hair, for the most part, has grown back. There are still some bald spots that are still super itchy but I think they will heal in due time. It's the same beast, but different manifestation of allergies/staph--how odd.

I feed Owen Blue Buffalo, dry kibble. He likes it and does well. Also once a week or so I get him beef shin bones from the butcher. I cook them for about 10 minutes, after they cool, I give them to him. He chews on them for several days. His teeth are pearly white (due to the chewing) I am sure.

I don't like the vet that Part uses and have told him as much. I prefer the one that I take my mom's dog to--as my mom's dog had an allergy to grass and is completely fine now. I mean, I understand the reasoning for the cortisone shot as he did have hives and was having a reaction to...something? But I do recall that Morningstar (the chug mix) never got a shot. They just told me to give her benadryl as needed to clear it up and for any flair ups. If it didn't go away they would use the cortisone. My Uncle told me the other night that cortisone is bad for the dog. He said that the more you use it the less effective it is when the dog is older and actually needs it. Is that true?
If we wash him and it takes the frontline off of him...how would it help if we get the staph off his skin if the fleas to get him? Could we just wipe his underbelly off? Would it get rid of the frontline at the same time?
Maybe Cloud is just a genetic roulette--in that the same reason he is a white weim--he is predisposed to allergies. At any rate, I cannot control the genetic aspects. I just want to help alleviate as much of what ails him as I can as Part absolutely loves him. And really, can you deny this face?

She clearly stated in another post that was her boyfriends intention!!!!
But if there is genetic problems...would he reconsider?
I am not dogging her..I am just curious....more so what colors would you get.... |

I have been reading the latest posts.
My question would be if a dog is known to have extreme allergies/genetic predisposition, why would an owner want to breed it. You would be passing on the problem to it's offspring. Which was done a generation ago, or the problem would not have shown up in your dog.
As far as washing off your flea preventive, I don't believe that bathing/swimming has any effect on removing the preventive, or so the directions state.
In dog food ingredients you want to avoid fillers and heavy grain content. You might ask your vet about Prescription Dog Food, it has minimal content of any allergens such as mentioned above, and use it until symptoms totally disappear. Then reintroduce small amounts of the dog food of your choice over a 1-2 week period,if no apparent side affects proceed with the regular food. If this is a infection, antibiotics are necessary, Cephexlein is one to consider.

To those who ask about breeding questions. I did mention that it was my boyfriend's dog and that he is the one who had the intentions of breeding Cloud. I don't think he has changed his mind on that front either, though to be honest, I haven't really asked as the boy is still barely a year old.
At any rate, who's to say what the genetic outcome will be? There are people out there who are aware of their own genetic disposition and they still have kids despite that. Things happen and things could have been established long, long into the genetic line and just decide to reappear its ugly head.
Also, he talked to the vet and asked why they didn't test for certain things. So additional allergens have been identified. Cloud is highly allergic to cotton and slightly to wool.
Hmmm, how odd. I didn't think you could be allergic to cotton, eh...didn't know about corn either. There you go. |
