Since I can't name any names of a certain Weim rescue in my area....I would like to know how many times should a person inquire about a weim before actually getting any response from the rescue?
Kinda getting a bit angry, and it is starting to change my thoughts and feelings about the whole process...

Shannon, keep sending emails or call... rescue is always a bunch of VOLUNTEERS and we get busy with our day to day lives and sometimes can't always get back to every applicant. Don't get upset... sometimes the right dog for YOU takes a while to find you. |

I can totally relate here on both ends of things (as someone who applied and kept getting strung along, and as a volunteer for rescue).
MY first experience w/ rescue was applying to rescue a dog- getting an email asking me to call and speak w/ someone further..I called and the person was "busy" and asked if they could call be back later tht night. Later that night turned into never..so I waited and emailed a couple days later to follow up, was told we should set up another time to talk..tried to set up a time..still nothing. Finally I sent a blunt email just asking to please let me know if I was not considered a good adoptive home since that was the impression I was getting so I could figure out my next steps in the process and stop hounding them. I got an email back saying no no I was considered an ok home she was just really busy and would get back with me shortly. Months later and nothing so I ended up getting Grayce from a breeder.
Welll now fast forward a year and I had filled out an application to volunteer w/ the SAME weim rescue. Did not hear anything from them @ helping out for quite some time so I began volunteering w/ the German Shorthair rescue since they actually returned my calls. Than one day I got an email asking if I could foster for the weim rescue and I did. Fostering opened up my eyes to WHY things were so bad on teh communication end...it seems that this one woman was single handedly running the whole thing herself. She dropped the foster dog off with me, she was the one taking adoptive application, she was the one visiting dogs in the shelters and picking them up...she was the one who dealt with my frantic phone calls when my foster dog broke out of his crate repeatedly and she is hte one drove a new crate out to my house...she was doing SO much that she didnt even have time to try and deal with organizing getting people who wanted to volunteer more involved ot help her out. I think she needed help majorly but was having a hard time delegating and prob a lack of volunteers to work with. the entire time I volunteered with them I never once spoke with or met another volunteer...or even heard of one for that matter.
Now moving and volunteering w/ Tri State has been a completely different experience. We are big on making sure we try and contact all applicants within a week to set up their interview and we interview every applicant (even if they dont sound like the best potential home). During the interview process it is explained we do not place dogs first come first serve that it is based on the best possible fit etc.. etcc... etc...
Tri-State seems pretty well organized but I know we are even lacking in volunteer help (which is going to be my new job as volunteer coordinator to try and get peopel more actively involved).
sooo..ok long winded story...
Im not sure which rescue you are dealing with and what their scenario is..I can just relate to my experience with a rescue that seemed to have no volunteers at all..and a constant number of dogs rolling in
I would say continue to contact them...if there are several different contact emails, numbers Id try them all and maybe you will just get the right person. If you are about to give up- Id send an email stating that you are considering looking elsewehre..Id make sure in your emails you continue to mention your experience as a weim owner so hopefully they will not want to let a potential adopter w/ weim experience slip by. I know you would be an ideal candidate for us! |

| Oh...I hope you don't give up on rescue. I agree with the previous post. Most rescues are all volunteers and we also have normal full time jobs on top of trying to help save as many dogs as we can. Some rescues are a bit more organized than others. Louisville Weim Rescue seems to be very orgranized and on the ball about stuff (at least they are with me and my fosters). So hang in there, and please don't give up on them. Maybe you could try another rescue that might be close to you as well? |

Shannon,
Please don't give up. Continue to call, e-mail whatever you have to do. Let them know you are getting frustrated. Yes, we are all volunteers and there are times it gets very overwhelming. I contact every person that contacts us about a dog. Even if I just send an e-mail saying that I will be in touch in the next day or so. |
