|
|
Ok, I have looked all over the internet and found sites that say they are deadly to dogs and other sites that say just the plants are deadly. Abby loves them, this morning she grabbed a tomato off of the counter and ate the whole thing. Last night she stole my Dad's tomato off of his sandwich, leaving the meat. She won't touch them while they are on the plants, but once I bring them in she thinks they're hers.
So far she seems fine, but now I'm worried. She really, really loves them. |

I know they say that tomatoes are bad for dogs, but when I was growing up we had a little pug that ate tomatoes like every day. She loved them, and probably ate a tomato a day until she died at age 17. Maybe it was her fountain of youth! |

in our puppy class on friday night the instructor said that tomatoes are on the list of things not to give your dogs because they have a high citric acid content.
mind you this is just a young guy at petsmart saying this... but he never mentioned the "deadly" part... just that they're acidic. |

Yes they can be very toxic to dogs!
A friend of mine had to take her dog to the ER about a month ago because he had eaten tomatoes. The dog was vomiting and was on the verge of collapsing. The ER vet said that he was one lucky dog! |

WOW, i must have some really lucky dogs, they eat tomatoes every chance they get... I mean they steal them off the vine and everything!
I have never heard of them being bad for dogs, maybe i should do some research myself. |

| My aunt would feed her dog all kinds of vegetables, including tomatoes and never had an issue. I would definitely contact the vet to make sure. |

| hooch has occasional tomatoes and tomato sauce.. it helps with yellow spots on the lawn.. and he loves them. i suppose occasional consumption wouldn't hurt.. i have also read that garlic is toxic.. yet 3x a week i give him a garlic and brewer's yeast supplement made for dogs to help naturally repel fleas and ticks.. go figure.. |

i feed mine tomatoes here and there - the cherry ones. i wont give them but 3 or 4 at a time, and they maybe get them once a week when i am picking them off the plants in the garden.
i figure too much of the acid isnt good for me... so it wouldnt be good for them either, so they only get them in moderation.
no problems yet. |

That's so funny I always wondered why if they can't have garlic there's a supplement with garlic. I've also noticed that almost every dog treat I see in the store has some form of garlic in it. Also something weird, when I was a kid we had a basset hound and I remember teaching him tricks with oreos! he must have eaten a million of them. but he lived to almost 17 years old. so who knows, i don't |

| i think garlic is more in the raw form, and there is an amount... i think a small amount of garlic is good for them, but eating entire cloves, not so much. no idea where that line is though. |

| Our Vizsla is allergic to tomatoes. He gets hives all over him and swells up. We always have benedryl on hand--just in case. Our weim has the occasional tomato. |

| Mischa eats at least one cherry tomotoe almost every day. In the mornings she goes outside and picks herself one off the vine. I wouldn't feed it as her primary nutrition source, but we haven't had any problems yet. |
