Hi everyone! Several weeks ago I received some paperwork on an owner surrender senior weim named Dink. The woman had contacted us at Heartland as her mother had died leaving her this weimaraner as well as two other dogs. I visited the family about two weeks ago and just fell in love with Dink. She is sooo sweet. They thought she was eight however once they retrieved her records it turns out she is 10. I am much like Lynn as I love senior dogs. She just melted my heart. At Heartland and I am sure at most rescues we encourage the owners to keep their dogs until we can find a permenant home unless it's not a good situation. Dink's home wasn't bad, she had a big fenced in yard to run in, a playmate springer spaniel, and a nice family. However, they had a two year old daughter, a 4 month old baby and a life that wasn't ready for dogs. I could understand their predicament. Poor Dink was stuck out in their backyard all day while they were at work. Dink is extremely afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks so several times when she was left out there, she freaked out and got out of the fence. Poor thing.
She is one big girl. She is about 85lbs. Couple of fatty cysts, Grade 3 heart murmur. She didn't take to Greta and Bo very well at first but now they are nestled in their own little spots sleeping like babies. I am tranporting her to her foster home on Sunday but I am grateful to get to spend a couple of days with her. I truely hope she finds her forever home soon but I know her foster family will love her just as much as I do.

What a beautiful old girl. Poor baby. It breaks my heart to see a senior dog without a home in their older years. Thank you for helping her find a new home.
Isn't it great just to spend a little time with them? I've said so many times before, they know love when they get it. It makes all the difference in how they adjust to change. She will do fine and I am sure that her foster family will fall in love with her. One look in those eyes and it will be all over.
Good luck Miss Dink. |

You can't even tell she is in a temporary home. She knows the place in and out already. All three slept in our bedroom last night. Each in their own little bed, until Greta decided she wanted to between us under the sheets to keep warm. LOL! She is just a complete love. Greta keeps trying to play with her and she just looks at her like "Are you friggin kiddin me? Bring it on, pup"
I'll definitely miss her! |

We dropped Dink off yesterday afternoon with her foster parents. They were thrilled to see her. They have a two year old son who was pretty excited, too. He kept calling her a ruff ruff. She spent all morning playing with Bo and Greta and then running around in the backyard with my daughters and all their screaming little friends. The commotion didn't phase her one bit. Such a sweetheart!
I am going to miss that big lug. I loaded up the foster family with a gift bag with pumpkin, flaxseed, feeding instructions, tennis ball, etc to get them started on top of our standard stuff we give when a foster gets a dog. She needed some stool assistance majorly, and could really stand to lose about 10lbs. Hopefully, it helps!
She really made me want another one. I love those seniors! So do my girls. They wanted to keep Dink since Dink doesn't knock them over or jump all over them. They think Greta is going to be that hyper till she dies. LOL!!! |

What a bittersweet story! It is very sad to see a senior in need of a home because you know that if it is hard for a younger dog, it has to be twice as hard on an older dog who lost their owner. I hope she finds a wonderful home that will spoil her rotten !
Thank you for doing this for her. |
