We feed our 5 month old 4 times a day - at 8am, 12pm, 4pm and 8pm.
Is that nuts? I think I just started that because I figured more small meals were better and easier on her - I don't know if I just imagined that idea because I was freaked out about bloat, or if someone told me this, or if I read it somewhere. It seems that many of you feed only 2X a day.
I'm curious what everyone else does - how much (we feed 1 cup each time), how often... and how old your pup/dog is. |

We started off feeding 3 times a day - Unfortunately we had to back to work the Monday immediately after we got her, but we came home at lunch every day to let her out for a potty and get her some lunch. As she neared the one year mark, we got brave and left her all day (the extra 30 miles each day were getting REALLY expensive) and cut it back to just two meals - 6am and 6pm.
Luna has eaten three cups of food the entire time we've had her - I don't know why this amount has worked the whole time, but it has! So when she was younger she got one cup 3x daily, now she gets 1.5 cups 2x daily. |

Twice a day here too, well, sort of.
She gets breakfast in the morning, dinner when we have dinner and then her filled Kong in the evening. When I get the Kong ready I use some of her dinner food to fill it so that she isn't getting a lot extra though. |

we feed hooch 1 cup kibble plus goodies.. 3x a day.. 5:30-6AM, 11:30-12noon, and 6PM..
he usually gets a 3 o'clock yummy, too.. a frozen kong or dried sweet potato..
we recently reduced the amount of kibble.. if he starts getting up in the middle of the night more than once, or starts to look too thin, we increase his amount of dinner kibble.
works for us.. |

wow. that's great that you only have to feed him 3 cups to maintain his weight!
I hear of some who have to feed up to 6 cups/day - that would get expensive! It just goes to show that a higher quality kibble is not *always* more expensive in the end!
edited to add:
We feed Lincoln 1.5 cups in the morning at about 7:30 or 8 with yogourt, then we fill a kong with kibble and PB at 1pm and then 1.5 cups at about 6pm with more yogourt |

| Wow...I feel like I over feed Bailey, but he is so active!!! He gets 5-6 cups of food per day divided into 3 meals. If I cut back too uch, he starts to look thin. He weighs 76 lbs and it very active everyday....sometimes he is up and full speed from 8am to 8pm with no nap. Am I crazy? |

I do not think you are crazy at all. When we had Rocky on dry dog food he used to eat 6-8 cups a day (also a pup though) and he has always been very thin and he as well is very active. I think every dog is different as well on the amount of food they consume and how their body metabolizes the food. Also it could be that the food is not high in fat. |
