We fell in love with the Weimaraner a couple of months ago. Since then it’s been a daily addiction for both me and my husband. We researched the breed, the distinct characteristics, possible problems, and breeders.
This past week we had talked to a breeder who said that she had mom and dad on site so we decided to go check out the parents so we could use them in the future when we were ready to get a puppy. The breeder had three 10 week old males and we absolutely fell in love with all three of them. We struggled with the decision of possibly taken one of them home for 4 hrs, and finally after a lot of tears on my part we decided on the mildest of the three boys. On the way home he was extremely nervous and he was constantly shaking. About half way home we heard this weird noise coming from his throat as I was holding him, then came the throwing-up all over his new mommy and the new car.
He is very sweet and cuddly. He is grey with beautiful eyes and long ears. We were not planning to get a puppy until we moved into our new home.
He likes the crate but whines at first when we close the door and leave him by himself. He understands the word “QUITE” and after we say it a couple of times he lies down and relaxes. We started working on this from the first 2 hrs he was at home. We have only had two little accidents in 3 days, and after those two we figured out that when he need to go out he whines and smells around for a couple of minutes, so we have to be quick to take him out.
We did our research before getting him but we would love it if we can get some suggestions as to how to make him scratch especially on me, and bite us playfully when exited. I don’t think he realizes his own strength, after all that’s why we named him Rocky!
We are so happy to have him even though I feel like we have not slept since Saturday when we brought Rocky home.

I think you mistyped that but you want him to STOP scratching and biting, right?
The foundation for stopping that behavior is to "yelp" and say OUCH! Let him know with your voice and body language that it hurts you. Every time he does it, even if it doesn't hurt. He should get the message eventually. When pups are out in the wild, they play with each other by wrestling and biting. The puppies yelp when it hurts, and that's how they let each other know they've crossed the line. Same principle here.
There are other ways to curve that behavior I'm sure, somebody else will have more suggestions.
Welcome to the boards! I fell madly in love with the breed when I made my first visit to some adults too. Luckily she didn't have puppies so I didn't walk away with one right then haha, I get my guy next month.
Welcome from RJ and my Weim-to-be! |

LOL, you are correct! That’s exactly what I was trying to say, “STOP”. Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely give it a try.
I love this site! |

Welcome!
Gunnar says "Hey! Lemme out or should I just pee on the floor"!!! in Weimish.
Actually he knows to scratch on the backdoor or vocalize at the deck doors(kinda an impatient growl, not a mad growl).
These dogs have such extensive vocabularies, it's hysterical)
We're still learning Abbys' but, she is funny as hell and will string along various notes for 4-5 seconds. |

| welcome, we've had ours for a total of 4 whole days now! he is very sneaky when it comes to peeing. he's had several accidents (thank goodness we have tile throughout most of our house). the only indication he gives is he'll sniff around the floor more than normal, which WE still haven't been trained well to sense, but we're learning |

LOL! They sure are smart I can tell you that much. It’s our 4 day anniversary today as well!
I literally felt sick at my stomach today because I had to leave him alone for about 7hrs. He is doing well with his crate training and he likes it. He sleeps there during the night (about 6-7 hrs) and sometimes during the day. I don’t want to jinks it though. I just hope that he will be ok while I am at work. I think I might be more panicked that I left that he will be. I am extremely attached to him already!
Good luck with your new pup! |

| Iris, i was the same way for a long time when I got Sky. I still hate to leave her. I used to sneak out of work 15 mins early, just to rush home after work, i missed her soo much! I still do, but it gets better. |

So are they usually ok for up to 8 hrs? The breeder was telling me that they just sleep after a few minutes of being upset when you first leave. Do you leave Sky in his crate or free around the house when you are out?
How old is he now? |

He's a she... haha. Well to tell you the truth when she was that little my dad went over during lunch and let her out. Your guy is probably going to go pee pee in his crate. But you may get lucky!
