UGH! I need to vent. I really hate irresponsible dog owners, especially ones who make MY life harder by being so. I was babysitting this morning for a seven year old girl and we were out for a walk. Both of my dogs pull a bit, but they are making a lot of improvement and I can handle them. We'd gone a couple blocks and she was showing me tricks on her scooter when this dog runs up to us! A big black lab. I've seen him before, tried to catch him. He didn't have a collar on then, but he has one on now. But dogs who won't leave my two alone make them absolutely unmanagable on leash. They were pulling me all over the place, twisting the leash around me. He kept trying to mount Cache, wouldn't stop. Meanwhile, I'm also babysitting, so I have this little girl to look out for. She didn't want me to leave the dog, but I certainly couldn't walk with him and have them. Well, we walked home, pulling and yanking all the way. He still kept trying to mount Cache as we walked. Finally, I got them into my car. They obviously didn't like his company because they willingly hopped in. I took one of the leashes, hooked him up, check his tags and called the number, no response. I saw the vet was our vet which is just a couple blocks away so I walked him down there. They gave me their address and I walked him over there. The woman was home. Answered the dog, explained that they have two houses and he was at the other, which is why she didn't know he ran away.
This frustrates me for so many reasons. So much wrong with this picture. And I have rope burn to remember it by.
I hate people who are responsible for stray dogs! It makes my job as a responsible pet owner so much more difficult. Even if I wasn't to have taken him to his home, it would frustrate me, just because I can't walk down the street with my dogs in peace. Even if my dogs didn't pull, it would be annoying because they'd still be some strange dog trying to hump mine while we walk.
Anyone else have "pet" peeves? |

I agree! These are the dogs that get injured because their owners are so ignorant. I also can't stand dog owners who don't educate themselves on how to take care of their dogs.
I am on here daily reading and asking questions. There is NO reason that a dog should be given away or taken to a shelter b/c the owner didn't put the effort into them, especially house breaking. Hemi has the occasional accident, but he could do it everyday, and it wouldn't change a single thing. I love them just as much.
If you aren't going to put in the work, DON'T GET A DOG!!
phew, ok i am done.... |

I'm starting to become a dog snob
I think most people shouldn't have dogs, or have to be forced to be treated like how they treat their dogs--- locked out back for 8 hours with nothing to do and no exercise or food.
And then on one of our rare visits to the dogpark today, some clueless gals had their two dogs...and they didn't watch them at all, and just laughed as their dog humped most every dog in the park. One of these times their dog is gonna get in some serious trouble from pissing the rest of the well behaved pack at the park off. |

This is the battle we face. It seems that for every responsible pet owner there is 10 that suck! Keep on fighting the good fight.
Last summer I was out in the yard doing lawn work when this guy, who i have seen walking his dog around my plan, lets his dog poop in my yard and keep on walkin! Didnt even pick it up with me standin there watching!
So I say something along the lines of WTF, and he gives me attitude!
I hate people sometimes! |

Similar situation happens on the beach ALL the time. I watch people letting their dogs poop on the beach at the Bay and then walk away...I freak about that because the city is SO good about not enforcing a leash law there...but if it keeps up, it will be like the resort strip..they don't even allow dogs there anymore...AT ALL in the summer time.. not even on the block off the ocean because of irresponsible pet owners.
Here's what I do...if I see somone walk off after their dog poops, I say, "Hey. I have extra bags here. Do you need one? " Usually works every time.
This morning, I took the dogs running (they are doing GREAT!!) and we ALWAYS run into someone whose dog is FREAKING out when we run by...I mean, pulling on the leash, jumping, barking...plain freaking (usually a small dog) and my two are trained to look straight ahead and stay right beside me the whole time, which is a little more difficult when another dog is out of control...I HATE when people let their dogs just do whatever and act like that!! NO MANNERS! |

Nice to hear similar opinions. I wish there was an easy solution for this. People are so stupid. There are way too many dogs in the world to the ratio of people who really love dogs enough to take good care of them. |
