|
|
Laney has started peeing when greeting people.
The very first time she did it was with my husband. He is a truck driver and she hadn't seen him for about a week. She came into the room and he started talking to her and she peed everywhere. She did it again on Thanksgiving with new people.
Is this fear, submission, failure to socialize her? I thought I was doing a good job socializing. I actually pay my teenage daughter to walk/run her every day when she gets in from school. (Child labor) So she gets exercised and meets lots of kids along the way. We also live near an outlet mall and every Sunday we have meet and greet. We just go walk and every one wants to stop and greet her. She loves it ! No peeing there. Although she did poop on the sidewalk once when she was really small ! LOL
It doesn't happen every single time but you just never know when she is going to do it.
Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong or what I can do to stop it ? |

| sounds like submissive peeing to me...I had a weim once with it. You just have to not greet her (or let anyone else greet her) in any way that might stimulate it. No "baby talk." I had to literally ignore my girl for the first ten minutes or at least until after we got her outside to pee when I got home. |

It is submission peeing. Scout used to do it when he was young. Usually when he met someone outside of our home.
He just kind of stopped on his own..maybe got more confident. |

had a friend with a dog that did this too.
it was his GF's dog. when they split, he inherited/adopted it.
anyway, he moved in with my wife and i for about 6 months - 3 bedroom house means we have space to spare, and our girls loved him and his dog, so it was a good fit.
at some point while with us, she stopped this, or at least 95% stopped.
i think it took a lot of her traveling around and building her confidence a bit - but with time, she got better. |

| It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong. She may just be a submissive dog that lacks a bit of confidence. Keep socializing her as you are, and think about getting her into obedience or agility. A working dog that experiences success is a good confidence builder. |

| Daisee was doing it every time we encountered someone, but now she only seems to do it with other dogs (even small puppies). We are really trying to get her socialized and used to new people and dogs...I think it's helping. I hope she'll get over it entirely, but we'll see.... |

| I have a submissive pee-er. She got better as she got older and now she only pees when she gets her nails clipped! There is a lot of information online about it. Just google "submissive peeing" and you'll get lots of advice. What I did was to get in the habit of taking Gracie outside the second I got home and not really greeting her or paying any attention to her until after she peed outside. |

No, spay incontinence happens usually when they are sleeping and their muscles are relaxed. Submissive peeing usually happens when there are emotional greetings.
I would wait until she has had her first heat cycle if you can be SURE you protect her from getting pregnant.
And when you do spay her, wait until she is in anestrus as it is thought that one of the reasons for spay incontinence is due to spaying at the wrong time. Anestrus would be when the uterus is "in rest" so to speak, wait until exactly smack dab in between cycles. |

Anestrus starts about 60 days after the end of her cycle.
When she first starts bleeding, her cycle will last about 3 weeks. 2 months after she's done is the earliest I would spay. |
