Ok.. if Ruby's HOD wasn't enough for the poor girl.
For the last two weeks she has been losing hair in patches over her body. The biggest one is on the side of her face and is about 1.5 inches wide and high. The skin underneath is red and scaly and has peeled off twice now. I was HOPING this would get better without another visit to the vet.
I have been using an antibiotic cream on it but it doesn't appear to be helping.
I read somewhere that the hair will grow back white from these patches?
I've been trawling through old posts about fur loss etc and I can't really find out what it is exactly and what it is that was used to treat it - if anything.
Any info from those who've gone through baldy weims? |

| I heard that too, but Bailey has bad allergies and loses his hair. It grows back the same color, but the skin underneath turns dk grey...like a scar or something. Give her some fish oils, great for skin and coat. |

| There is a good chance that she has demodectic mange. She is immune compromised which is showing up with the HOD. Steroids can also exacerbate demodex. |

| That sounds like mange to me also. My girl had demodectic mange and she lost hair all over her body and the skin was red and flaky. I would take her to the vet. My girl got over it and then she got it back again this year. We finally took her to a dermatologist and she said she might be a dog that just gets it all the time. I don't know why but this vet has been awesome to us and she is getting great treatment. She just had a checkup and they only found one mite and it was dead. So she probably wont have to have her treatments anymore. So she is getting better. If you have any questions about it you can feel free to ask me. I have read so much about it and I have learned a lot. |
