I understand the concept of what your vet is trying to do, I just disagree with it. Usually the first night they are still so out of it they just sleep anyhow, and I can tell you, even with pain meds, Hannah was still moving slow the first few days home. I hate to think how uncomfortable she would have been with nothing available for her.

Another thing is that they keep them overnight and I refuse to leave him there, I love my vet but she will not be the one watching him overnight. At home I will be up all night keeping an eye on him. Rocky is my heart and life, literally, if not for these dogs I would probably not be here today, so I just need him to be OK. I will let you guys know how it goes tomorrow, I should know by late afternoon.

For a female it's a major abdominal surgery--albeit routine--and I would definitely give them something for the first 24-36 hours for sure. They are way tougher than us but it's still a major surgery. Probably after 48hrs you're in the clear and most of them are acting normal again. You can always take the pain meds and not give them if you don't need them. Just my 2 cents. Maya was definitely feeling it after her spay.
