Libra here too so I totally understand that balance and facts thing=)
Some dogs easily take 3 months and not just a normal 2-6 weeks to settle on a food...unless they are runny poo's or throwing up I say give it longer. |

you were right.. his food is fine..
at the vet yesterday.. Hooch's swollen tail is a gland, actually.. called stud tail.. and his stronger stink is related as well.. just because he is an un-neutered teenage male.. going for the snip within 3 months i think.. that should "fix" the stink..
he is still on the lanky side, so i wanted to hold out for his hormones to kick in.. apparently they have.. is wrench neutered? |

Just yesterday this guy with an incredibly obese lab repeated three times "boy, he's skinny" and then went on to tell me how bad the hips of his three year old lab are. I'm sure a little less weight would help that dogs hips but when I suggested it he said "but he's in too much pain to exercise".

Good to know he's healthy - just smelly I don't know anything about stud tail. |

oh and BTW, we give Hooch a mix of oatmeal, yogurt and peanut butter frozen in a kong for a snack.. this passed week he has been getting it daily, but we ran out of plain oatmeal and have been giving him multi grain..
i noticed his eyes and ears were really pink, lots of head shaking and scratching.. thought it was outdoor allergies.. then the light bulb went off..
i think he has an allergy to the rye and the wheat in the multi grain oatmeal.. he's been off of it for 2 days and doing much better.. so for those of you that feed oatmeal.. i suggest keeping it to straight up.. no twist.
as far as the food quest goes.. has any one researched and found a food close to the ingredient list in the original all stages canidae yet? i am about to do an ingredient check list.. in all of my spare time.. but if someone already did it, i'd love to know the result. thanks. |

I've switched to Wellness Core within this past week - honestly I'm just curious how they do on it. My mix has to be on grain free and I've had them on Natural Balance Limited Ingredients and they both did great on that - coats look good, solid poops, no gas, etc. But honestly I just wanted to see how they do on Wellness Core, and I'm of the opinion that they should switch foods every now and then anyways.
The first 2 days of the Wellness mix were great - solid poops, and they seem to like it (I haven't ever found anything they DON'T like though lol). Then last night: we all went to bed fairly early and in the middle of the night I awoke to Molly pacing around. I figured that with the early bedtime maybe she just didn't get to pee one last time. I let her out and she came back in fairly quickly. I crawled in bed again and she was still pacing around. I told her to lay down - and then I heard the loudest stomach rumbling I've ever heard! I asked if she needed to go out again and we both ran to the back door and I kept her out there for awhile. It was too dark to see what her poops were looking like, but all I thought was, "oh no, it has to be the new food...." I've honestly never had a problem switching foods, and she didn't get into anything weird that I know of. Maybe it was just a one time thing, we'll see what today brings. This morning she was acting fine though and ate her breakfast as if nothing was wrong. |

I've been through tons of different foods, trying to find one that suits Zehen. Wellness Core gave him diarrhea, so I switched to Natural Balance. So far I am in love with this food. He's doing great on it. Zuna does wonderful on Core though, only complaint I have is the stinky poos. |

I have a feeling that I won't be sticking with Wellness - I'll stick with it for a little bit yet since it's still very new and there's no diarrhea anymore, but Molly is more gassy and yesterday she had the stinkiest burp ever. |

Hello - I actually found a food that seems very similar to the original Canidae Lamb and Rice. It is called Dog Lover's Gold. We switched Tilly very quickly, within 3 days, and she never had a stool issue. Prior to Canidae she had serious stool issues, mushy, 8-10 times a day, gas, puppy acne...the works. She is doing fantasting on the Dog Lover's Gold. We also add Missing Link. She also gets the pumpkin/pb/oatmeal thing in her kong for a treat. Might be something worth looking into.
We started off rough with UTI when on Nutro Natural and she had seizures when she was on Purina brand (breeder recommended). Since Canidae she had been fine until the formula switch, which we all know what that caused! So happy to find the Dog Lover's Gold.
Good luck to all of you in the search for the perfect match for you and your dog... |

i can't find that food anywhere near me, but glad you found a switch that wasn't painful..
i think i am going to add in orijen and see how he does.. i have a sample bag that i give for treats, and he has had no issue with me mixing it in with the CORE when i am running low.. the kibble is just so small.. i don't even think he chews it.. maybe i'll pick up a sample bag of innova evo large bites, too..
he is doing well on the CORE.. just not perfect.. HAHA.. like we will ever achieve perfection..
and i want to be able to rotate his food..
weims are so sensitive.. right now he has dry raised red bumps on his front elbows.. but the ears are less itchy and red.. i suppose it was the rye and not the wheat in the oatmeal because he has had treats with wheat in them and has been just fine..
it's always something with the lumps, bumps and rashes.. |

It is just awful how it is ALWAYS something, isn't it?!
I promise it is possible to find the right food... as frustrating as it is! I know Canidae made alot of problems for themselves when they changed their original formulas... but have you considered trying the grain free versions? I have a bag of the salmon kind and *knock on wood* so far so good. I'm almost up to 100% of the Canidae and we still have good poops and I haven't noticed anything else weird... |

Good Luck!
I might start today too! I was hoping to hear back from them first but it's now been three weeks so I think I might as well just jump in... |
