Outdoor Wash Station

Postby whatagoon » Wed Mar 10, 2010 9:23 pm

River had her 3rd bath today...in a week! It's been gorgeous here so we've been spending a lot of time outside with River. And she's a digger :( She has been very industrious with her digging, finding the nice muddy, wet spots that leave her entire body covered in a short amount of time and make a bathtub bath necessary. I've been sure to not use a lot of soap and mostly just rinse & scrub her so her skin doesn't dry out. I was wondering though if anyone has an outdoor dog wash station set up at their house. Did you buy it? Build it yourself? Simply throw them into the kiddie pool? What works best for you and your muddy Weim?

We don't have one. I love the idea though. We have used a hose and a leash to tie Cache to the fence or basketball hoop and give him an outside bath before. It would be fun to build one like they have at the beach.

For some help building an outside dog wash, visit your local plumbing supply house. Alot of them sell to the public as well to wholesale customers. No offense to anyone in the big box industry (honest, I visit Lowe's and Home Depot too!) but there are a TON more options that the supply houses can offer. Your local supply houses will know what valves will work perfectly in the freezing conditions for your area.If you have a way to tie into a hot and cold line check out

This sill faucet allows you connect a garden hose (ahh, I see the light bulbs going off-yes, warm water to wash cars!!!).
Disclaimer:nah, I'm not a plumber, I just try to play with lots of goofy ones in real life.

Mine have never minded rinsing if the water is warm. Even in the summer they hate a cold shower.
Hooking up to the hot water line will be easy for us.
But we have to run a hose into the laundry room each time. But they rarely need a bath.
In the country place we have a big coil of black plastic water pipe
that heats up by the sun for our outdoor shower. Comes in handy if they get skunked.
Dreamy would be a hot/cold hook-up by the back door with a standard hand held shower head.

Like you, our last house had a threaded faucet in the laundry room that we could fit a garden hose to for warm water. The new house did not and my weims do not like the cold garden hose. So we dip out of the hot tub  even Duke likes to bathe with that warm water. We use lots of suds (Head and Shoulders) and lots of buckets to rinse.
