Fur Kids: Huckleberry, but we call him Huck. |

Horray! Huck is now 9 months old, and is out of his crate full time now! We started by letting him sleep on his 'bed' at night in our bedroom with a gate up between our bed and the wall. As he got used to that, we took the gate away at night and he could roam the house (which also meant jumping on the bed wake up calls whenever he was done on the couch... thank god for squirt bottles of water).
After he was broken in at night, we started with the daytime. One hour here, three hours there...
It's been 3 weeks now since we've let him have free reign over the house while we are at work, and (knock on wood) everyday I come home, he has sleepy eyes, and is lying on the couch watching the door when he hears my keys enter the lock. Regardless, I'm still gonna say a prayer everytime I leave the house in the morning. |

What a good boy. I used to let Fooky have free reign of the house and he was wonderful but when we got Miley they became the destruction duo. Now they both have to be in the crate when we're not home. After about 10 barbies, 5 stuffed animals, 3 decorative pillows and a big section of the linolium floor, we can't afford to let them stay out. Gotta love em though |

| We are trying to do this with wrigley and so far no luck....he is good for a week or to and then down goes a throw pillow.....I feel bad he has to be in his kennel all day it would be so nice to let him out so he can roam around run, play and look out the windows. |

WoW- 9 months is early to have free reign. Just be careful, they will trick you. I thought Schatze was ready a few months back. She was out for a few weeks alone (only a few hours at a time) and finally the beast struck.
She started wrecking the place so back in the crate she went. i actually feel safer with her inside. Weims have a way of hurting themselves when left alone. I think Jacks mom just posted about him getting a glass, breaking it and cutting himself up pretty bad. I worry about her swallowing something and choking while no one is home to help her.
I'm just a paranoid mom I guess.
Congrats and good luck... |

I agree, that is the one thing I worry about is them being helpless... We're pretty good with making sure everything is out of the way ( ) but you're right, they do find a way... oh well, can't just put him back in the crate now... maybe he'll surprise us. |

Thats great news. We thought Rosie was ready around the same time. Things were great for a few days--then she was BAD! She spent another month or so then , earned her freedom I still hold my breath as I come through the door...lol Between her and the Vizsla I never know what I will find. The only good boy we have is our rotti |

Congratulations! You are a brave man! If you have weim-proofed your house, maybe you both ARE ready!! Good luck! We're rooting for you (and living vicariously THRU you, since our pups will not have that freedom until they're FIVE probably!! haha!!)
