hi,
well our new girl comes home tomorrow! we are thinking of doing the barf thing...but i need to read a bit more about it, and our biggest problem is this.....we are vegetarians ourselves mainly because we do not support the meat industry....so we certaintly do not want to feed our dog these industrial meats...i will not get into the why and why nots...i am sure everyone is familiar with them. so until we find some organic bio-eco meat and bones here in sweden we are looking into one of those middle type kibble foods such as orijen. no grains, bio-eco meats.omegas fruits and veggie based...........i am wondering what everyones thoughts are on this matter........
thanks
noel

I feed Gracie Orijen and I absolutely love it! Gracie had gas, eye discharge, and stinky breath before we switched to Orijen. I think she definitely does better on grain-free food. I researched Orijen and decided it was what I was looking for, but it wasn't available in Oregon. I worked hard to get it & I am so glad I did. I am a big fan of this brand!
For those who haven't heard of Orijen:

| Orijin has just become available in the UK (a supplier has started shipping it in) and I'm switching Slate and Grey to it just as soon as they have finished the last bits of the food they're on now. I have tried it in sample bags and they loved it. |

| I've been feeding my rescue weim, Stormy Wysong (chicken and rice) for the past two months since I adopted him - he seems to love it. However, his coat has been getting worse and worse (looks kind of like he has been rained on) and he is itchy a lot. I have also given him flax oil, too. I just bought a bag of that Orijen brand with Salmon, etc. Just wondering if this is okay to feed him. He seems to have a sensitive stomach; he threw up a few morsels of it and kept eating grass tonight after he ate it. I mixed it in with the Wysong as to give it to him gradually. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

The coat looking like it has been rained on is probably due to normal shedding and not anything food-related. When his new coat has come in, he will probably be all one colour again.
The itchyness isn't normal though, not if it's excessive. Make sure he doesn't have fleas or some other skin condition.
It could be that he threw up because the Orijin can be quite rich if they are switching from a high grain diet. Orijin has 70% meat in it, and I think it can take some dogs a few days to adjust to it. It sounds like you're doing the right thing by mixing the two together. |
