| I think I'm ready to take the plunge. Butler has always had off and on runny poo, but was ok on the old canidae. I think I want to go 50/50 but I really need some guidance. Can someone give me a detailed decription of a 50 50 diet? Amounts, what exactly and so on? Please! |

| Ok so i went to the store and stoked up on Chicken livers, wings, necks, canned salmon and ground turkey. I wish I had taken a picture of Butlers face when I gave him a bowl of chicken wings and livers...he had NOTHING to do with it, he actually acted scared of it. haha eventually i gave in and just cooked some of the ground turkey and two wings ( i crushed the bones up bc he acted like he didnt know what to do with it with the bones in there) and he finally ate. But i had to cook it....im dissapointed, i thought he would LOVE the chicken livers especially. Anyone run into this before? How do you get them to eat this stuff? I just wanted to give it a try bc butler is starting to look a little too skinny. |

I generally cook livers, too. Or else I'll mix it in with ground beef b/c they don't like the texture.
A lot of people will tell you that feeding 50/50 is not a good plan b/c they digest raw food differently from kibble. Maya is harder to keep weight on, while Sage gets tubby easily and I can say that it's been a big difference in this at least since switching. |

Sometimes it takes a little to get a dog on raw. I've had a dog go CRAZY for it from day one and another who wanted little to do with it.
Be careful cooking anything with bone, it will change the texture of the bone and can make it splinter. Raw chicken bones are fine, cooked chicken bones are BAD.
Also as a note some dogs don't like very cold/frozen food, especially to start. I'd try lightly grilling the ground turkey and then feeding it to him so the middle is still raw, see if that helps. It certainly worked for mine. Now they are all raw (more or less, my little one is 50/50, I just do raw 1 meal and 1 meal kibble, even tho I've heard the kibble/raw digestion thing is a myth, I feel better about separating them.) |

Huh. That's good to know. A few months back one of the roosters got in my dogs fence and it was way to late by time I got back from work. All that was left was a messy pile. I freaked because of the idea of bones being in their system. But I also figured that dogs in the wild eat bones, so what the heck. But that makes sense about cooking the bones changing the texture. |

| Butler ate raw chicken winglets tonight! Yay! He has been turning his nose up to everything for the last 2 days. I had to hand feed him so he could get a good chew, but he was all about it after the first one! He wasn't interested in the pork neck, but I guess hell start to trust me eventually. But one success at a time I suppose! |

Once you start feeding raw you'll never go back to kibble!!! Raw in my opinion you can't beat tiny stools, great coat and health |
