Rudi is a long-haired weim we rescued 10 weeks ago. At the time we were told he was 10 weeks old. He is now 20 weeks old and is only 33 lbs. This seems quite small for a male weim. But I cannot find accurate growth chart specific for the breed. Is there one out there that I am unaware of? We are hoping he reaches 70 lbs.

Thank you.

so you are saying he is 33 lbs at roughly 20 weeks? At only 5 months he still has a good (IMO) 15-20 months of growing. It may be a wives tail but look at his paws, they generally seem to grow into them.

Rudi,

I may just have a large pup on my hands, but Chance is just a little over 4 months and is now 45 pounds. Just a reference for you! I actually asked this same question awhile back in the general forum, check it out if you'd like, I believe one of the responses I got told me to multiply my pups 3 month weight by 3 for a rough estimate of his final weight. Male weims should be around 70-80 generally, but if this "rough estimate" is correct, I'm on my way to a 111 lb. weim. Yikes! :woohoo:

Yup and the ears - weird but true :)

I don't know the science either, but mine is 16 weeks and he is right at 30 lbs. the vet told me he would probably top out at about 70 lbs. he does, however, have a lot of ear and paws to grow into.
Yours may be a tad on the small side but like oregonweim said he's still got a lot of growing to do. I wouldn't stress to much. Just my two cents.

He does seem a bit small but maybe thats just him. Unfortunately since he a rescue, you couldnt see his mom and dad to gauge a size :( Have you taken him to the vet yet to get an estimate on age/adult weight?

According to that my girl will be 43lbs. She was 45 at 6 months.

I don't think Terra will be big. Her mom was 65lbs and her dad was 70lbs.

I'm not sure how accurate that chart is either. According to it, a 16 week old Weimaraner would need to weigh 50 lbs to reach what an adult Weimaraner should weigh( 82lbs). Seems a little off to me. That seems a little out of the average for a pup of that age.
It says mine will top out at 46 pounds. That's quite a bit of difference than what his vet said.

Jade ended up being much smaller than we had anticipated when we got her, but we still love her just as much! She has just as much spunk as an average sized weim packed into her petite frame  As long as he is a healthy weight for his frame right now I wouldn't worry about it. At 5 months old he still has a lot of growing left to do! And even if he doesn't end up hitting the 70 pound mark I can guarantee you will love him just the same :)

That is somewhat encouraging. But his ears and paws are small.

Yes. He actually made several trips to the vet the first week we had him. He showed all the classic signs of HOD. But responded incredibly well to NSAIDs. We ended up taking him to UPenn to make sure we were feeding him correctly and to modify his vaccine schedule. We switched from a modified-live to a killed distemper vaccine. We have not had any reoccurrence since.

I am almost starting to wonder if Rudi is experiencing secondary dwarfism. I just put all call in to our vet at Penn.

And the adoption agency says his age is an estimate. But yes we plan on taking him back to the vet this week.

Thank you.

Oh wow! He sure was tiny at 10 weeks. But in the 18 week picture, he looks much more like he should. I guess as long as he is healthy, you should have no problem. Easier to cuddle when they are smaller :)
