I'm new to the website- so pardon any mistakes. I have a 1 year old male weim that I rescued 9 months ago- He's fantastic. I just rescued an 18 month old female Weim, Zoe, and we have some issues.
She shed quite a bit of hair at the rescue and it's very noticeable (she looks balding). She's blue and you can see her skin. Any tips?
Also, she has diarrhea. She does not seem to have an upset stomach. I have no idea what type of food her prior owners had her on, we feed Eagle Pack and she seems to like it. How long will it take her to adjust? |

Loosing hair- I'd take her to the vet to get this checked out. She could have some type of allergic dermatitis, or it could be mange. Some mange is contagious, so better to be safe than sorry.
Diarrhea- If you changed her diet pretty abruptly it can take 2 weeks for her to adjust to it. Maybe add some rice to it for now to help slow her digestive system down. When you take her to the vet it also wouldn't hurt to have a fecal sample taken to test for worms. That could be part of the problem too. When you do go to the vet and mention that she has diarrhea, also make sure you tell them that you've switched her diet and had no idea what she was eating prior. That way they don't try to load her up on medication and anti diarrheals.
GOOD LUCK! Thanks for rescuing!!! |

| She went to the vet 4 days prior to us rescuing her. She was spayed, given blood tests, shots, etc. I'm hoping the hair loss it just stress. |

| What rescue did you get her from? Did they tell you the vet checked the reason she was loosing her hair? If not, I would take her to the vet and have some tests run, like the previous post said it could be mange and could spread to your other Weim. |

it could be or it could be thyroid or food allergy or like my Junie... nothing works and her hair is so thin and patchy... we do know that one of the kids in her former home dyed her fur w/ human hair dye so maybe the follicles got burnt? We tried food, supplements, oil, mange scrapes, t3/t4 thyroid tests...
good luck and THANK YOU FOR RESCUING!! |
