At this point in time I would not give Satin balls. Firstly this dog needs a good fecal exam to see if he has any parasites.
Feed this dog a good quality dog food. He needs to gain weight slowly. The satin balls are OK for quickly putting on a small amount of weight but this dog does not need his system stressed.
Next off you will need to umbilical cord this dog to you pretty much 24/7 or when you are at home. This goes for your hubby too. Just go about your business with him tied to your waist. Don't look at him don't talk to him. At varied intervals give him a treat. No talking nothing. NEVER look into his eyes as this is a challenge to the dog at this point in time. If he shies from something don't say anything just go about your business. Never say goopy baby voiced "Oh it's OK" if he shies from an object or a noise. THat's the worst thing that you can do.
When you want the dog to come up to you just kneel down. Keep your eyes averted and your head turned away from him. You are the submissive one until he gets some confidence.
CRATE CRATE CRATE!!! Use a wire crate if he seems better in that kind. You may also want to try putting a sheet over the crate to create a den-like affect. Do you have another dog? If so crate your dog next to this one. It can have a calming affect on him. Crating him could save his life! He could eat something and either get an obstruction, perforation, or be poisoned! |

Just an FYI, we adopted our Weim at 6 months and she hadn't been housebroken. They CAN be housebroken after that. We had an unfinished basement that we put one of those dog pens in (sort of a large crate, if you will). She had a doggy door to the fenced in area of the yard. She was housebroken within a couple days of learning to use the doggy door. Don't give up, it CAN be done. |
