|
|
| My weim Layla just turned 1 and of course is still in her puppy phase. She always has to have some thing in her mouth so Iv been buying her the rolled up raw hid bones but they only last an hour sometimes longer. I dont like to give her too many raw hids to begin with so does anyone have any suggestions for a new chewy??? Is there anything out there that she will be entertained with for a while and really enjoy eating?? We have already gone through two Kongs...FYI. |

| i get these rubber bones from wal mart that are unbelievably durable, floyd has had the same one for close to 7 months now and he is the ultimate toy destroyer. we find bit and pieces of the bone but for the most part it is still very much intact. i think their like 8 bucks at wally world. |

Maybe try bully sticks. They're better for her than rawhides and I've heard they generally last a couple days for strong chewers. If not, I plan on buying some deer antlers for my guy, check it out at this website. Kind of pricey but it should last a long time

| UNFORTUANTELY WE HAVE MY SAME PROBLEM! THE TOY WE BUY THEM, IF WE ARE LUCKY, THEY LAST AN HOUR. BUT WE BUY HUGE BONES, AND THEY LAST FORVER BECAUSE IT TAKES A LONG TIME FOR THEM TO MAKE THEM SOFT AND THEN IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO CHEW THEM. WE DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM OFTEN, BUT SOMETIMES THEY ARE A LIFE SAVER! |

Nylabone, nylabone, nylabone!! I can't believe it took me so many months to discover these but they are awesome. It is basically an indestructible rubber bone but still has the same appeal as rawhides for some reason. Reagan was going through rawhides so easily and they were tough on her stomach so these were our answer.

Here's a 3rd on the Nylabone!
If you have a heavy chewer look for the "durable" kind like the bone-shaped ones, or Luna's favorite the Dinosaur shaped one! |

| Nylabones are great....the big white one. It has some flavoring on it and is virtually indestructible. |

| I bought bully sticks for the first time the other day and they are gone! They only lasted 10-20 minutes with my dogs. I was surprised! Everyone has been talking about them. I would definitely go with the deer antlers, my German Shepherd was a heavy chewer and he had the same pair of antlers for years. Check ebay, there are people that go around collecting them when they shed and sell them there. |

Thanks guys!! I guess we are going to have to try the nylabone. The deer antler is interesting though. She is a very strong chewer and when I dont have some thing for her to chew on she goes laundry diving and socks are her favorite!! The worst part of that is I found that not only does she destroy the sock but she has even eaten parts of it!! That really worries me and I just want her to have some thing that I dont have to worry about her breaking apart and eating. I really appreciate all that advise.
Also I am excited to see the pictures from the last meeting here in Plano. Layla and I would love to come to the next one if someone can just send us the info we will try to make it. Thanks again! Off to Wal-Mart we go!! |

Oh, and make sure you buy the right Nylabone. I bought the girls their first one the other day and while Lexi isn't a heavy chewer, Holly is. She chewed those bones up in less than an hour. Turns out I bought the wrong ones, the one for puppies! I spent about $15 on each of them too, I felt like my dog went in my purse and ate $30. |

The ONLY bone that has survived Sterling's chewing (most powerful chewer I've ever had!) is the Galileo bone by Nylabone. It's huge and has knuckles on the end. She loves it.
Bullysticks lasted about ten minutes in my house too! Pig ears, Colt took about an hour to eat his, my JRT's had one that I split between them gone in about ten minutes...Sterling ate hers in about one gulp Scared the crap outta me! |
