Hi! My name is Joy. I live in Katy Texas with my husband John our 15 month old son Harry and my 2 wonderful furkids Holly (5 years) and Pinto (about 9 years). I work at a Pet resort called Rover Oaks so I am lucky that Holly and Pinto can come with me to work most days. Holly we got as a puppy from a breeder she has been the love of my life since I first saw her. She is very much a mommy's girl. When Holly was 1 we started doing volunteer work with WRNT. We have had many fosters all of whom I love deeply. We adopted Max in September of 2005, he was 10 years old we lost him to bloat in January of 2006. I was devastated and still to this day get emotionally when I think about it. Shortly after he passed we got a call to see if we could foster Pinto for just 1 week because there were people in our area who wanted him. Well here we are 2 years later and I couldn't imagine our home without him. He was super skinny when we got him, you could see every rib and vertebra in his body. He was also beat up pretty bad he lost a fight with a glass door weeks before he came to us so his foot was all bandaged up and the night before they brought him to us another dog beat him up. He decided he liked us and we were his family anytime people would see him he would ignore them or there dog or would bark and not stop time and time again no one wanted him and he was very vertebrae with himself! We finally decided to keep him and made his adoption official on August 1 2006. He is about 9 now and did not even know how to play when we got him. He loves to play now!
Both Holly & Pinto are Canine Good Citizens and I am hoping to train Pinto to be a therapy dog after the first of the year and Holly soon after. |

Welcome! What a wonderful story! I am so sorry about your Max
We have an old man, Jake, 11. We, too, started out fostering him. He was 9 then. We (I) couldn't give him up and asked John if we could keep him. He bloated with torsion last December. We were very lucky.
Thank you for all you do for these dogs!!! |

Welcome! I am a rescuer too. I first had Oliver, whose parents raised him from a puppy and no longer wanted him at age 7. I took him (my first dog in 25 years - I had weims long ago). He had bad SA, but other than that was a wonderful boy. I lost him to bone cancer at 9.
I said never again, but a month later Almost Home rescue called me about a 4 yo boy that had been dropped at the pound. AH was full. I said I wasn't ready, but when I saw Beau I knew he was coming home with me. After a successful sleep over, he was vetted and I have now had him 2 years.
Thanks for all you do for your dogs. I really believe they know and are grateful when they find their furever homes...

| Welcome to the board. What a great story you have. You are very luck to be able to bring your two to work with you from time to time. |
