Hello everyone my name is Ron and I am going to pick up my new puppy tomorrow morning. I am not going to lie after months of deciding that a Weimaraner is the kind of dog I want I am pretty nervous!! He is 9 weeks and I plan on going to a puppy kindergarten but am still quite worried about house training and him chewing up everything!!
Any words of advice or helpful tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Ron |

Hi Ron. Welcome. How exciting, your new puppy. Just keep reading the forum. You will be amazed at how much you can learn just from the posts here.
Do you have a crate for him?? Crate train him correctly and it will minimize your training and behavior issues right off the bat. |

| Welcome! I had worked myself up with the same type of concerns, wondering if I was getting ready to make a big mistake. I wish someone would have told me just to take a deep breathe and relax. Crate training has been a lifesaver. I also clicker train, and got him familiar with the concept almost immediately. As hard and tiring as it can be, calm and consistent training benefits all dog types, and best of all may save your couch. Can't wait to hear all about your new puppy. |

Ok so far so good Marley is sleeping again! Day one and no in house accidents! The only problem is that if I leave him when he is not sleeping boy does he start crying...I am probably going to try and make him sleep in his crate tonight but I am pretty sure he is going to be crying pretty loudly...could be in for a long night!!
Wish me luck! |

| I think its better for house breaking to have them sleep in the crate at night. Although he still might have to get up to go. |

I made Grace sleep in the crate at night for the first several months. I did however put the crate right on the floor next to my bed..it kept her from whining all night..but also kept her from having accidents at night. I did still have to get up once or twice to let her out for potty.
She now sleeps in my bed, under the covers, head on the pillow, and spread out like a human...so be prepared if you do let Marley in your bed at some point! Its like another person when they are big! I love it but its not for everyone haha. |

| Congrats on the new pup. I have a 14 week old pup and shes doing great. I had the same concerns that you did. But like everybody else said crate training is the best way to house break your pup. Also make sure that she gets around an hour a day outside, either walking her or letting her play with other dogs. If they get outside to release all their energy they usually dont bite on things they are not supposed to. You'll be fine. |

Is your pup a Winsome puppy? They are in Iowa and had a litter 14 weeks ago by a dog I really love.
Sorry to be nosy!

Ok so we are trying to crate train Marley and he does not seem to like it very much! He is crying, howling, and making a whole lot of noise. There are going to be times when no one is at the house and Marley will be in his crate, how long is too long to leave him there and how long do they usually whine, cry and howl before quietly staying in the crate while we are out???
Any tips will be greatly appriciated!
