Hey,
This is my first time posting on this site. More importantly, I just got a 8 week old female weimaraner and I really excited!! I've read a good amount about them and I feel that I am ready for a weimaraner. I was wondering if there is anything that I should be aware of for the first few weeks? Also, are there any good places that have information on weimaraner puppies that I can look at? This is my first dog that I've owned bymyself and I want to make sure that I do everything right. All adivce is welcome!!!!
Thanks
Luke |

| Luke you have come to the right place. There is a lot of info here and if you have any problems or questions people are always pretty good about answering them. You are in for an interesting journey. Weimies are awesome fur friends but they can be mischevious and a challenge at times. Welcome to the group. |

| Thanks. I figured that this would be the best place to gather information. I got a question for you guys already. Is it o.k. to let your weim sleep with you in your bed? I'm thinking about doing it tonight but I'm scared that she might pee and I want to crate train her. What do you guys think? |

| I agree if you want to crate train her I would make her sleep in her crate....then once she is fully crate trained you can let her sleep in bed with you if you want. My two both go to bed in their crates and usually at least one (if not both) cries to go potty in the middle of the night and I just open the crate and let them out. They go outside and do their thing and then come back and jump in bed with me. But mine are 9 and 6 months old. I wouldn't do it with an 8 week old. These dogs are smart and both my pups were potty trained in about a week. You must take her outside regularly (once an hour or so) until she gets it. Any accidents in the house will really set you back. I slept next to my pups crates for the first few nights and if they cried I would talk to them and stick my fingers in the crate but never let them out. And you will have to get up a few times in the night for potty too. Good luck! They're loads of fun and energy!!! |

I stared with mine in bed with me and think its a big mistake. I am sure others will disagree with me though.
When he was little he couldn't get off my bed with out waking me so when he woke me up I took him outside. Then as he got bigger he could get off the bed and I was so tired from interrupted sleep that I didn't wake up. Instead of getting house broken, he wound up going on the kitchen floor. So then I had to put him in the crate at night. He wasn't happy and he let the whole neighborhood know.
When he turned one he was house broken so I am now able to let him sleep with me. He is still crated during the day or when I go out. |

| I started out by putting mine in their crate at night, as well as during the day when we're at work. But at some point....I think WE (but maybe it was really THEM) decided it was easier to keep them quiet (and know when they needed a potty break) if they were in the bed with us, plus we got all that extra "bonding time" since we're away from them all day long while we're working. We wake up every time they jump down off the bed, so we can keep our "eye" on them all night. They're actually very good. They have never had an accident (during the night) since they started sleeping with us. |

We raised two from pups and they slept in bed with us from day one. As soon as I would feel him move, I would carry him out to pee, then back to bed. I also never had a problem with them getting out of bed before us. I have four weims that love to cuddle in bed.
We have to crate them during the day while we work and we felt that crating them at night too was just too much. |

Congrats on the new puppy! I tried crating the first night but at the first cry I gave in and let Gracie sleep on the bed. She was fine and always let me know when she needed to go out.
Got any pictures of your new baby? |

I really wish I could let her sleep with me but I dont think that I should. From what I've read it will mess with me trying to crate train her. I guess I'll just have to wait until she's potty trained, then I'll let her sleep with me.
Thanks for all the tips. |

None right now, but I'm going to take some here in the next week. Girlfriend is gone for the summer and my parents really want to see her so I'm going to take some. I'll post them her too when I get them. She's a beauty!!!
