Hi!

I'm new and thought this would be a great place to come for advice, resources and just chatting! We (my boyfriend and I) just adopted a 6/5/7month old Weim. She is the sweetest love ever, we are obsessed. Her name is Jersey and her family was moving to deal with an illness so we adopted her. She is amazing, well behaved in the apartment (we live in Manhattan) and the best running partner ever (she did her first 5 miles with me the other day and wanted to go longer!) She is crate trained, housebroken and a general love bug. I would love to get suggestions, however, about her breath and a couple of other things. I brush her teeth daily, she has been checked by the vet there is nothing wrong with her but she really has stinky breath...any solutions/ideas? Also, her stomach is very sensitive. She is on Purina One Large Breed Puppy right now as this is the only thing which has been good for her stomach. Any suggestions for treats which are good for sensitive stomachs? Is peanut butter ok (natural) in her kong for her stomach? Finally, we are going to get her spayed ASAP. Can someone tell me what the recovery is like? Can they go for walks as long as they do not run/walk slow? I am nervous about how to keep her really "chill" for 10 days!!! Looking forward to meeting everyone Smile

Welcome from Texas.

I have heard that it isn't good for them to run before they are 18 months. That is when their bones have stopped growing. They can run at their pace when you walk but not at your pace. They don't know when to stop.

I feed pro plan also. I use a mix of sensitive stomach and performance. Sometime I can't keep his weight up.

Pam for the advice! I asked my vet and he said she should be fine to run. Also, I run a 10 minute mile pace so she is literally quickly walking next to me, NEVER at a run pace by any means! (I'm slow...) Smile

Welcome!

I also have a 6 month old city dog, yoko.

These boards are great, you'll enjoy it here.

Yoko is being spayed in a few weeks...hopefully the recovery is quick. I hear the first day they are out of it, but then bounce back quick. I think you just need to watch the stitches mostly.

Take care,sue

All weims are different, but after his surgery... You couldn't even tell that we clipped Jack. He still wanted to be a wild man!!

As for bad breath... I think I recall someone saying that could be related to food, but I'm not sure.

Anyhow, Welcome to the site, definitely a lot of great advice here!!

Welcome ..

When I had Zoey and Jada spayed they both were pretty groggy the day of surgery and were pretty lazy for another day or two maybe but they were up and moving around pretty good .. I actually had a hard time keeping Zoey still after her surgery .. I would give her sufficient time to heal before starting the normal routine .. We take regular trips to the dog park and I waited for atleast a week after surgery before taking them to the park to really run or romp ..

I had my boy done with laser surgery and young and you wouldn't have known he had surgery. He just wanted to leave the vet and go home!
