Hi there, i am wondering has a wonderful idea for putting on weight...that is on our boy oliver...not me haha. We adopted him 3 months ago and he has been doing really well! he is naturally a small Weim, very slight in bone structure and is pretty much skin and muscles. he is very happy and seems healthy, and eats very well! We have him on Go! Natural, salmon and oats and poos seem to be really good (alot of them though) and his temperment seems alright.
We have been noticing lately that we can see alot..maybetoo much of his rib case and hip bones. I know weims are thin, and Molly our pup is too but she looks more filled out than he is (he is almost 5 years old)
any magic method to help him gain weight?!
thanks ahead of time!! |

There is one method that is used called Satin Balls - it's basically a very fatty mixture of beef mince (human grade), peanut butter, and a heap of other ingredients. You make them up into balls and freeze...
Here is one (of many) recipes...
500g ground beef (one with plenty of fat in it)
250g pkg cream cheese
1 jar all natural peanut butter
1 jar (smaller of the sizes) wheat germ
1 doz egg yolks
1 cup or so of flaked oats soaked in heavy cream
Mix up, form balls, freeze, feed as treats or food supplement
obviously, you only give one or two at a time with a normal meal, or feed as snacks/treats. This puts on weight very quickly... usually satin ball recipes are used for fussy eaters or dogs that have been ill. they are not for prolonged use hence why it is recommended to freeze excess.
If your boy is a good eater i would actually suggest continuing to feed his normal food and increase weight slowly and then cut back when you are happy with the weight... it's probably much easier on his body.
Chicken (wings/skin) and lamb flaps are high in fat. A lamb based kibble might help increase his weight faster. |

Zellie is sounds about the same size and weight.
she is 21 months and has been the same weight since 16 months. 55lbs. she has a 17in neck. i'll post new images on the photo area.
We have recieved praise with her weight from the vet and from a random person that says he's a judge at the shows. asked if we had her fixed.
apparently you are suppsoed to be able to see a very slight amount of ribs. When straight you can't see any ribs. She is all bone and muscles as you say as well. post up a pic. |
