I see a lot of people having problems with puppies but recently I've had problems with my (I think) 2.5 yr. rescue weim. I've had him from almost 2 years now and I haven't had much problem with except recently he's been starting to go potty in the house both peeing and pooping. Its strange because he's held it for 6 hours before wihtout any problems. It so random that I cannot pin point it to a certain day, time, etc. The minute I get home, he automatically runs into his crate and hides before I can even say anything. I'm assuming he knows what he did was wrong. had his urine tested and all negative. I walk him for about 30 mins before I leave and 30 mins when I get home. My mom comes by and lets both my dogs out in the backyard twice, while I'm at work. I doubt its an anxiety issue since I've never had separation problems and I also have another dog to keep him company. I know it's not my lab having the accidents. (I can tell the difference) Not only has he apparently forgotten his potty training, he's also recently starting stalking dogs at the dog park then charging and attacking them, he doesn't bite but it sure does sound nasty. He has killed 6 possums and has the highest prey drive I've ever seen in a dog. He even chases leaves that blow in the wind. Can anyone help us? It breaks my heart to see him having so many behavioral problems.

Set up a camcorder and see what is going on when your not home. It does sound like a bit of anxiety. I will get back to you on this later my laptop is dying out.

Crate him while you're not home, and take him out to potty immediately when you get home. He may just be seeing what he can get away with. We just had a potty training lapse with our puppy (9 months) who decided that the kitchen was a fine place to pee. A few days of this and she's remembered her potty routine again.

I was very diligent last nite and took Blue (weim) and Ian (lab) out twice before going to bed. I crated Blue like I always do for bedtime and absolutely no problems. I let them out in the backyard for a quick pee before I got ready for our actual walk. I took cookies with me and every time Blue peed I said "Good potty" and gave him a cookie. I don't get it. He can hold it all nite about 8hours but he can't hold it 4 hours before I get home from work. Its bizarre, we walk for 30-45 minutes and all he does is pee. The minute he gets in the door he hits the bell to go out in the backyard and then he poops. I don't get it. He poops at the dogpark, so why is he waiting until he gets back home to poop in the backyard? Thanks for your previous advise, I am going to crate him when I'm not home and re-train him. I may also do a test and set up a camera like you suggested. How long should I continue crating him when Im not home?

Until he remembers his manners! It took Macy a few days.
My dogs also prefer to poop in "their" yard. I think it's pretty normal--weird, but normal. |

Thanks. I really appreciate the advise. I started giving him treats every time he pees/poops outside, but he's pretty smart and he's caught on, so now he pretends to pee when we're outside, then runs up to me for a treat....lol nice huh? I don't give it unless there's actual pee/poop. Well, thanks again, I will keep you posted.
