Sat morning we were taking out the boys, and they were all going up the stairs, and Zane stumbled kind of going up. He moved really slow after the stumble. Did not whine nor cry out. For the rest of the day he has acted really weird, kinda lathatgic, but does not want to move around, all through the night he slept next to my husband on the floor, which Zane usually sleeps on the bed. When he goes out to potty he has spurts of energy...that was yesterday. Yesterday he ate and somewhat was drinking. This morning (sunday) so far, no interest in drinking, but then again we haven't fed the boys yet. He did eat normal yesterday morning, and yesterday night. I kinda thought yesterday a seziure might be coming on...but nothing. He was with us all day yesterday like always. The dogs are usually in our site completely. So I don't think he could of got into anything.. We are going crazy, we want to take him in, but thought maybe he would shake it over night. Now we are getting really worried.
Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Oh no, Poor Zane... I'd call the vet. Then again, I'm a little over cautious w/ B n J....but you never know.
See if he eats and how his energy level is.
Keep us posted.

Its almost 11am here, Zane did eat his food, and drank some water finally, and will take stuff that we are eating...he likes his treats...Bill mentioned that he watched him pee this morning, and it was bright yellow. But then again so is Wyatts.... Zane is still laying down, he will come down our stairs briskly, but go up slow. Our vet is open tomorrow, and I really don't want to take him to the emergency vet here in town. I think their a bunch of weirdos. So if nothing changes over nite we are calling first thing tomorrow. I was just happy to see him eating and drinking water.
Hopefully this is just from him stumbling up the stairs which he does all the time and he is just sore....I pray...

I'm so sorry about Zane! I hope that he's starting to feel better. It sounds as though he may just be sore from the ordeal. I personally wouldn't worry about yellow pee unless it's like crazy abnormal. Both of my dogs have a bright yellow pee, always. They even drink a ton of water too. As for falling down the stairs, Scooter does that every once in a while, mainly because I have steep stairs. But only once did he feel a little sore off it. I think he did kind of the same thing, just moseyed around until he felt like himself again, which wasn't too long. But I agree with you, if he's not better by tomorrow it's on to the vets.
Good luck Zane, big kisses from us here in Oklahoma! Keep us updated, Shannon. I'm sure he's just eating up all the attention. |

Well its 6:20pm here, and Zane still is not back to his normal self. But he will perk up to go out, if you mention play ball, my husband went out and bought some asprin for him and he heard the keys jingle and wanted to go too. He drank some water while Bill was filling up the kiddie pool out back. Although he would not eat anything tonight. We are still going to try a bit of food here and there. He wags his tail when you come in the room and talk to him. Tomarrow we are taking him in first thing. My stomach is in knots, and just sitting here watching him is killing me inside. I really don't know how people with human kids watch them and be with them while they are sick, because that would put me in the ground.
Thanks for the well wishes, I am sure they are helping....

I wouldn't give him the aspirin. It can be VERY hard on their stomachs- and if he hasn't eaten he has an empty stomach probably.
Has he gotten into anything? Eaten anything weird? Has he had a normal bowel movement today? Press on his abdomen, does he seem painful? Any vomiting? Any abnormal drooling? Did you offer him food today and he turned it up, or did you just decide to withhold food for the day? |

He only had one aspirin this morning, and it was a half of one. He had normal bowel movements this morning, after his breakfast. He is not vomiting or drooling. After tonight of not wanting any food, low and behold we end up eating McDonalds, and I offered a chicken nugget to him piece by piece, he ended up eating about 2 and a half of those. Funny how fast food perks up dogs. Bill did notice that his pee was bright yellow, kinda amber tonight. We have checked his abdomen, no squeal or acting as it hurts. He drank again out of the kiddie pool tonight, Bill lets the water out after the dogs are in it, and refils it over and over...so it was new water from the afternoon....I am happy about the water drinking... We just have to make it to 7:30 am tomorrow morning to go to the vet.

Has Zane experienced seizures before? From what you've written thus far, I'm wondering if Zane has pulled a muscle or something. It's good that he's voiding and that he reacts to you.
Good luck. I hope it's nothing serious.
Keep us posted. |

Yes, Zane has had three seizures in the last two years.. They have been pretty spaced apart. With him acting not like himself, that was our first thought. But this all started yesterday after stumbling up the stairs.
Took a brief walk on the internet, googled the whole urine thing (the color) , and what I came across is not drinking enough water... I have just noticed a bit ago that his gums are not as pink and bright as usual, wonder if that has to do with lack of water also?
I just wish it were morning already....

I am sorry Zane is not feeling well.
The pale gums may indicate dehydration as you suspected which would also go along with the darker urine.
Lots of positive thoughts coming your way. |
