i am so aggravated right now.. i take hooch out for a good walk in the morning, but try to avoid the mail carriers.. they love him.. and give him these huge dog biscuits that he goes insane for. i truly think they have doggie crack in them..
i've tried telling them he is on special food.. given them my treats i carry to give him.. ask them to ask hooch to sit first, etc..
they are really sweet people.. but hooch just dragged me 1/2 a block to get to one of them.. she was cracking up.. and then gave him 5.. FIVE.. huge crack biscuits.. i said thanks after 2.. but hooch just sat there, giving her high 5's.. she laughed and gave him more..
he was so insane, i could barely manage him the rest of our walk because he was looking for her..
so he is not getting lunch now.. and i am trying to recover, and let it go.
ughhhh..
so upset!!!
end rant. |

well, at least hooch looooves the mail carriers.
mine go for her even if they are out on a walk.
they have destroyed numerous mini blinds (just put up new ones for my mom's arrival). they go insane. when i call my friends in the netherlands, they know when the mail arrives due to the racket.
nothing has helped.
i have a basket inside to catch the mail since they have shredded it before.
even saint ziggy was like that. for a while i asked the mail carrier to give her a cookie every day. no luck. when the door was left open, she chased the mail carrier into the bushes! |

LOL Thats me with my neighbors dogs!!
I prefer to make Jacks treats so I know whats in them, and he LOVES these peanut butter and molases doggie biscuits ... Well Jack plays with the neighbors dogs all the time so when I see them out ~ its like giving all the kids in the neighborhood popsicles... LOL I give Jack one, then of course I go to Ellie and China as well.
LOL However I did ask their owner before I began giving them treats. Now when Ellie and China see me, much like Hooch ~ its a "Wheres my treat?!" |

| My neighbor gave mine treats (her boston terrier just died so she gave me all her treats). Something was giving my kids the runs, she had fruity organic treats. I told her to please only give them something bland, like a milkbone, or something made w/ chicken or turkey. She always asked first and from then on always told me what she was giving them. |

Heh, I'm sorry I know it isn't a good thing, but it sure is kinda a funny mental picture....this huge weim dragging you behind as he does the frog leap planting and pulling you all the way up to your mail carrier...you trying to be stealth and avoiding mailmen/women at all costs when the Hooch Macalli is with you....just very amusing because I have been there with Rosie and it really is just infuriating to have all that training undone....they can be perfect angels inside but take them out of the house/yard for one minute and it's like what just happened?!?! |

Okay, I gotta jump in here since I AM a mail carrier, too. First it is a pretty funny picture. On the other hand there is a serious side to this. Mail carriers are not supposed to give treats to dogs for this reason. The dog gets used to the regular carrier and runs up to him/her every day for a treat, then one day a sub is on the route who may be afraid of dogs, sees this dog running at him and sprays him with pepper spray. You should have a talk with her or even call her supervisor and explain the problem. |

it's not just her.. it's another one, as well.. but he tends to keep his distance since i last saw him when hooch was so sick.. he knows only my treats, and only if he sits. the other one.. she just laughs at me.
i can see the serious side to this, but i would never report her for being friendly. maybe i will make a joke about her ever having a sub and bring that scenario up..
in the meantime, i will stand vigil, scoping out those trucks and waiting until they complete their route to walk the monster! kade starts school next week, so we will be pushed back at least an hour around here.. good news for me, sad news for hooch macalli monster..
oh, and BTW.. i wear sneakers only on our walks, and when i see he's about to go.. i hold that leash for dear life.. he may drag my silly butt, but he hasn't gotten away from me yet.. |
