thanks for the prayers and well wishes.. I let her know that everyone is thinking of her. She's back in hospital again. She passed several major clots yesterday and Andrew (the vet) believes that this bleeding now HAS to be happening somewhere in the bladder (he thought kidney before)
I will post again once I am home from work and I know something more
I am for the umpteenth time very late for work this week - they are getting non too impressed with me!!
See you in about 8 hours!! LOL

How's Ruby? And how's Ange? Smile

All I keep talking about is our poor Aussie baby who is sick!

dont worry about work... I mean, I know you need work to support yourself and Ruby, but maybe talk to someone who might understand how much she is your CHILD and not just a dog
My old boss knew I didnt have/want to have human kids and that Casey was and then Blue and June are my whole life. Once he knew that, he never gave me a hard time if I needed off for vets, etc.

I agree w/ Lynn, show your supervisor theses posts and her video...anyone who can still be a hardass after that, is just heartless!

I truly hope she's doing better soon. I will be away and unable to check WA, but I will be praying for her (and you)

my baby's home!!! Apologies for tlong post but it's been a busy couple of days.
We have good news and bad news.
Against many people's suggestion, we went ahead with the surgery as I spoke with the vet about the pros and cons and if it was the right thing to do. He told us we were welcome to get a second opinion and could refer us to people in Sydney who could do a detailed ultrasound (costing us over a thousand) to find out where the bleeding was coming from but even if we did that we would still have to have surgery to either stop it or repair it.
Good news first is that she has come back to her almost normal self. She's a bit sore today. Her HOD has subsided, drooling has stopped, temp is down and now has a big cool looking scar on her belly about 20cm long!!!!
Good news more is we have found out what is causing the bleeding (almost LOL). He thoroughly went through her water works - urethra, bladder, ureters and kidneys and watched her urine drain to find out where the bleed is coming from.
Ruby passed some major clots the other day and Andrew suspected after everything the bladder, so he advised me (as her temp was under control and they monitored her in hospital for 2 days prior to surgery) to go ahead with surgery. Her left kidney which was larger than the other is the scoundrel causing the problems.
Bad news.. to stop this bleeding - as the damage is internally in the kidney somewhere, the kidney will have to be removed eventually if the bleeding does not stop. Time is her biggest friend here. He doesn't know if it is a congenital problem or if it is some type of injury she's sustained somewhere which is unable to heal itself properly - as you know sometimes her urine goes clear then it is bloody again. We have bought her first crate to try and keep her activity to a minimum to try and encourage this kidney to heal.
More good news - we come away with 6 nights stay at the vets, surgery, spay, anaesthetic, x-rays, blood coagualtion, fluids, medications etc for $430 Shocked I'm pretty sure they have thrown is a heap of freebies as we've spent an absolute bucket load lately. Andrew has said that if the bleeding does not stop, then he will take the ratty kidney out free of charge.
I doubted myself and the vet at first if this was the right thing to do, but in the end I am glad that we did go with surgery.

hmm.. I have a quick question. After spay surgery do female dogs typically have urine urgency? I know the vet inspected her bladder and everything so they would be irritated and probably spasming. But has anyone else after their spay noticed their girls needing to go really frequently (every couple of minutes but holding once inside) and only a couple of drops coming out.
I'm sure they will settle down tonight..

i am glad you finally found out what the problem is with little ruby. as far as peeing after surgery, tyra didn't do that. she did that when she had UTI. so just keep an eye on her, sometimes, when tyra does that, i give her a lot of water and yougurt and it usually stops the next day, if it continues, then it's a trip to the vet. just see how she does.
