Hi, new to the site, am loving my 8 month old Rosie she is sooooo very attached to me I am wondering if anyone has advice on the best way to kennel Weimaraners when you need to. I assume a place with a big area to run. I am nervous she will get anxious as she is such the house dog? Anyone with positive experiences on this?

finally, some sanity on here... a fellow ohioan. welcome from windy BG.

if you want to use a single dog kennel, you probably need to go through the full process of training her on using a kennel. our Zoe is not kennel friendly. I am considering kennel training Riley (6 wks now), so we are starting on that path - even though she wont be forced to use it on a daily basis once she is 4 months old, i will likely try to keep her comfortable in it so it is an option for her. at about 4 months i think she will be big enought to spend her days with Zoe.

day to day, ours stay in a 6x6 chain link "kennel" in the basement. they take their frustrations out on it at times, but Zoe handles this setup... a kennel she hates, and at 3.5, i dont know how well i could kennel train her at this point.

It's called crate training. There's a good guide here.

Basically you want to associate good things with the crate starting as early as possible. Feed them in it, give them special treats in it, etc. Don't put her in there to punish her or anything.

Read the guide, if you have any questions ask. [/url]

crate... thats the word i was grasping for. puppy on the brain.
Riley is doing well with hers... I have been putting her in it once she falls asleep - she wakes up in there and seems pretty happy and warm, so its a safe place for her.
She carried on a bit yesterday in it, nothing crazy. Today she was in there about an hour and a half while we were at the store - had to wake her up when we got home she was so sound asleep.
She seems much more independent and laid back than Zoe... which is what we were going for when we picked her out.
