|
Yesterday morning when I woke up to go to work, Enzo seemed quite eager to get outside. Upon opening the door he ran into the yard and had a large soft bowel movement. No big deal, I thought, as that sometimes happens. I sent an email to my coworkers and let them know I was going to work from home during the morning as I won't crate Enzo if he's having poopie problems (obviously). So by lunch time he seemed fine - he had a solid bowel movement and wasn't showing any other sign of being sick at all. I crated him and went into the office.
When I returned home, I opened the door and immediately knew that something was wrong. The stench that filled the air was sickening. I hesitantly rounded the corner and braced myself for the damage. I was mortified. It was like walking in on the joke "The Aristocrats". What was in front of me was the most horrid scene I have ever witnessed in my entire life. There stood Enzo, covered in diarrhea, standing in diarrhea, and surrounded by diarrhea. His crate tray was full. The carpet around the crate was covered. The walls a short distance from his crate were covered... up to a foot-and-a-half high in some spots. How did he do that? I stood there for a second trying to figure out how I was going to get Enzo out of his crate, through the house to the front yard to be hosed off, and into the car to go to the vet without causing too much more damage. Knowing there was no other option, I simply opened the door and watched him track poo prints through the house. After hosing him off, we were off to the vet.
The fecal sample was negative for anything meaningful, so it was antibiotics and some special food for the next couple of days for Enzo. I never was mad at the little guy, because he couldn't help it, but it was at this point that I started feeling really bad for him. He looked like he didn't feel well and his butt was obviously sore as he was walking around with his tail tucked down. We headed for home.
I hooked Enzo up to a tree in front of the house and stood there, not really wanting to go back inside. I briefly considered burning down my house, feeling that it would be easier than cleaning the mess that waited for me inside. Realizing that I couldn't get nearly what it would be worth in a good market, I held my breath, ran to a laundry room, and put on a kind of disposable mask used when hanging drywall and working with insulation. I let out my breath and took a deep breath in, only to realize that the masks do nothing to block odors, but instead keep particulate matter out of your lungs. Since I wasn't going to try and actually breath the poo in, it wasn't going to do me much good. I grabbed a roll of paper towel and headed for "Enzo's Room".
His crate was disassembled and tossed through the nearby window into the front yard to be hosed off. My neighbor, standing outside watering his lawn, began laughing at me at this point. After spending a good solid ten minutes working the poo deeper into the carpet with the paper towel, I realized I was going to need to bring in the big guns. Off to the local Lowes to pick up a Rug Doctor. I would like to briefly pause here and take this opportunity to apologize to the next individual that rents the Rug Doctor I brought home: I'm really really sorry. So anyways, going against what some would describe as common sense, I put Enzo in the back of my car and headed out. Lowes was no more than five minutes from the house. What could go wrong? I couldn't leave him tied up to a tree out front and I couldn't put him back in the house. At least this way I could tell if he had to make doodie and let the poor guy out of the car. I drove like a mad man to Lowes, dashed in, rented a Rug Doctor as fast as you can rent a Rug Doctor, pulled the thing back out to my car, and threw it in my trunk. I got in, looked back at Enzo, and he was fine! He hadn't poopied! He shared my happiness by wagging his little tail depositing a load of liquid poo onto my back seat. I contemplated suicide.
I drove home with all of the windows open and tied Enzo back up to his tree. Luckily, the poo wiped off rather easily from my leather seats, which left me plenty of time to get my dogs organic matter off of my carpet. I pulled the Rug Doctor inside, filled it up with all of the appropriate chemicals, and proceeded to spend an hour treating a five foot by five foot area. I'm going to have to replace the carpet in that room. After hosing the dog off again and making sure he was "finished", I let him in the house. He ate a little bit of some special food the vet gave me, drank some Pedialyte, and laid down on the couch. I laid down on the couch and put my feet around him so I would feel him move in case he had a problem again during the night.
He woke up this morning feeling fine. Heck of a night. |

| So sorry Enzo was feeling bad. But I do love a good "Poo" story, especially if it belongs to someone else. |

POOR ENZO!
And poor you...
was the rug an area rug or part of w2w?
We have w2w and Blue peed so much on one thta my rug cleaner isn't helping it. It stinks so bad... I may need to go get a profession grade steamer and re-do it...
anyway. the point of my post was to wish Enzo a less-sore end-o!
Hope today was better than yesterday. |

Moral of the story -- Wood floors in the house and leather in the car.
Ah the joys of owning a dog... I think we've all been through similar.
Glad it was you and not me. LOL
Hope he feels better soon. |

I am truly sorry you had to deal with that, but I have to say that is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. Well, of course because it happened to YOU and not ME! |

The room where Enzo has his crate is the only room on the 1st floor of the house that has carpet. Doh! Thanks to you and all for the well wishes. I'll pass 'em along to Enzo. Oh, and on a good note, this event has pushed me to get him into a doggie daycare program that his vet runs. So he's there right now and will remain there during the days for the foreseeable future (or until I file for bankruptcy).

It was wall to wall carpet. Under a year old. Nice and plush. Luckily it's not a huge room and won't cost too much to replace. Even with a second treatment tonight I don't think I'm going to be able to save it. |

Wow.... You have my sympathy, and so does poor Enzo.
That is just truly bad.
But if I laugh, am I setting myself up for some bad dog-poop-karma?
