Kinley has two knots/lumps on her face. They are in the same position on each side of her face right below her eye around the cheek level. We noticed the first one the day we brought her home...it was very small and moveable. Then she developed the same thing on the opposite cheek, and it is smaller. They have seem to have grown and the vet did blood work last week, and he called this morning with the results. There were about three things that were "off" and I have to go pick up some medicine. He seemed kinda concerned and even said that until we figure this out he doesn't want to even schedule her to be spayed yet (which would have been about 2-3 weeks away). I asked him if the blood work results would be waiting for me in a report because I couldn't write as fast as he was talking....so I will post the report when I get back. The three antibiotics he said they usually use all had side effects for puppies...one could cause yellowing of the teeth if the pup hasn't got all the adult teeth yet and the other could cause joint problems if the pup was still growing rapidly. Kinely is a week shy of 5 months and has almost all her adult teeth (I think she might still have a couple of her big baby teeth in the back that she hasn't lost) and she weighs 34 pounds (which she has started plateauing and isn't gaining a pound a week and the vet said she would start plateauing b/c of her age). So I'm really worried and I asked about supplements for her diet or what else I could do for her and he said that we would try a low dosage of antibiotics for 5 days and then he wanted to see her again and decide where to go from there. I know this is probably doesn't make a lot of sense since I don't have the blood work info, but my husband isn't answering his phone at work and I had to talk to someone....
If anyone has any tips or advice for any of this please let me know.

Thanks guys!

I'll be thinking of her and hoping all is okay. Keep us posted on how she's doing and what the diagnosis is and give her a big kiss from me!

Thanks for the messages!

These are the results of her blood work:
Mild elevation in BUN levels (gastrointestinal hemorrhage/stomach ulcer)
Mild total white cell count with increase in lymphocytes (infection?)
Mild decrease in red blood cell count (anemia)

He is treating the BUN levels with Pepsid AC and antibiotics for the white blood cell count. The antibiotics are the lowest dosage possible and he said that there is no chance for side effects. He isn't doing anything for the anemia right now, he said it was mild.

We are giving her the meds for 5 days and we are suppose to call him mid-week and tell him what she looks like. Then we are due to go back at the end of the week for more blood work to see if the levels have changed. He will also more then likely aspirate the lumps then also. He doesn't know what the lumps are and thinks that the lumps have something to do with all the blood work being "off".

So.....he said he wanted to know sooner if there was any change in size of the lumps.

We're just kinda nervous as to what is going on and what the lumps are...

I'll let ya'll know how she is doing!!!

I am totally surprised your vet doesn't know his anatomy Rolling Eyes
Those are her salivary glands.
Sterling had a ton of swelling in her left one last week with this upper respiratory infection...her WBC count was pretty high, snotty nose...I knew they were glands, I just didn't know which glands they were.
Sterling was put on Doxycycline, and within three days, it shrunk back down. Has your pup had any sneezing, watery eyes, etc.?
Bet ya that's what your baby's got.
Please keep us posted....

ok... dont freak out about this... you will, so i shouldnt even post it, but try not to... i am just sharing our experience so you have the information.
THERE IS ONE BIG DIFFERENCE HERE, SO READ IT ALL BEFORE YOU FREAK!!!
we lost our Lola on Nov 4th.
the first week of Oct we had blood work done on her.
she was slightly anemic and had a very high lymphocyte count.
crazy high - i think 60,000 or so - i have the paperwork put away somewhere that i cant convince myself to go right now.
anyway, this was on a friday night - she went completey anemic over the weekend, and by monday we had her on chemo.
she had acute lymphocytic leukemia.
THE BIG DIFFERENCE... no bumps on her face. she had colitis (however you spell it), and had it for about a month and a half on and off before we figured things out. so, i dont think this would be the same thing, but there are some similarities there, two of the three, which are just scary things for me to read still.
isnt the BUN assoc with liver or kidney function or something like that???
anyway - sterlingsmom seems to have a more similiar situation - i just feel some sort of responsibility to share our experience with Lola - she was anemic from the day we took her to the vet until the end - to the point her heart rate was elevated and she panted if the temp went over 68 in the house...
ok, enough from me, im gonna get all emotion in about 2 seconds. sorry.
