Fur Kids: Used to have Sophie - Weimaraner

Training at PetsMart is going so well. Today I learned how to walk with Sophie and it's so much easier and not hard on my arm. I was looking down at her rather than walking straight forward.

All I had to do was to change the walking and change how I held the leash, then when she pulled she corrected herself basically. Loved it and can't wait to take her for a walk.

Since there are only three of us we got to do individual training and Sophie learned "Leave it". She picked it up so quickly (pun intended, she ate a couple of treats on the bounce and our trainer said, oh she's a hunter). But she just picked it up so well.

I'm working on my dominance with her as well.

Wanted to share, I love our trainer. And we get ten lessons instead of 8 because of the Holidays, weird, so ten bucks a lesson is a steal!

It'll only get better with time. I'm sure the worst is behind you, just keep working at it! Keep us posted, I love to hear Weim owners brag, it's a refreshing change from all the frustration and despair I hears so much, haha! Rolling Eyes Laughing

That's wonderful! I'm so glad she is doing so well.

What training method does PetSmart use and what type of collar do you have to use or can you choose?

Not sure what method she is using, I should ask! We have a prong collar for walking and training and we also just have a regular collar.

Ingrid is so good with her dog, she brought her in for training today and I love how she tells her to "park it" and then puts the dogs collar in her dogs mouth and scompi, I think that's her dogs name, she walks over and lays down. It was brilliant.

Hey! Yeah Ryleigh is in Petsmart training right now as well and doing great! I swear sometimes I think that she already knows the commands!!! Because she just picks up everything sooo fast! I have a smart cookie on my hands.... Well so far! Laughing

I have her on a Gentle Leader now (and doing well) but I will be buying a prong collar as soon as she fills out a little more I feel that she will do better on it. She turned 5 months yesterday on X-Mas.

We tried the gentle leader but it didn't do much at all so the trainer recommended the prong collar. Much better.

Ah, thank you. My husband is really helping a lot by walking her so much. It's been a struggle but it's good and bad and we had company yesterday and from one month ago at Thanksgiving, she was already jumping a lot less, biting a lots less (mouthy puppy biting) and better behaved. My relatives were impressed.

Thanks again, the encouragement here has been priceless.
