 Our family lost Heidi this past weekend. She was 10 years old and the best dog in the universe. She is going to be hard to replace. I checked classified ads at my work and someone had listed a post the same day for a home for their 4-1/2 year old weim (male/nuetered). Any suggestions on bringing him into our home and helping him adjust. They had to find a new home because he has recently showed some aggression. They are building a new home and have a brand new baby. We have children ages 8, 10, and 13. We also have two cats. Luke (new weim) has not been around cats. We are so excited but I'm also very nervous! |

Hi
We have a weimy puppy, he is now 14 weeks old, we had him from 8 weeks and immediately had rules to help our little Casper adjust into our family life.
We purchased a crate and a puppy pen only for bedtime. After about 12 days of getting up for him to go to the toilet in the middle of the night he suddenly started to hold himself till morning.
We do have puppy training pads that also help but consistency seems to have really helped. He knows now hurry up is his cue to toilet we also have him outside last thing at night but immediately go straight outside as soon as we get up.
The pen area acts as his own zone or escape area from the children but he trots into his area last thing at night and settles down, we shut the pen and go to bed.
We did this for not only his own safety but to stop him coming upstairs as once allowed my labrador upstairs and the upset of him not being there when he passed away made a big impact on us being firm and committed. A little nights of early get ups like having a new baby.
The pen is really amazing, ok taken up a large part of my living room, but the foe himto be totally safe, settled is worth its weight in gold. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get back to me

| Sorry to hear about your loss! How are things going with your new weim? My only advice is patience. I foster dogs from our shelter and in my experience it can take a few weeks for the dog to start to feel at home and it can take a lot longer to truly bond. It is good that you have Weimaraner experience and 4 is a great age. My weim is 4 and she is soooo mellow. Good luck! |

Sorry about your loss  We had to put out dog down about a year and a half ago and it feels like last month. He was what we called "the best dog ever". But congrats on your new dog! How is he doing so far with the cats? I'm new to weims, have only had my pup for 1 week. But everything that I've read about them is too be careful with the cats because of the Weims strong hunting insticts. I wish you lots of luck with him |
