|
|
Hi, we just adopted our first weim Gunnar and he is approx. 5 years old. He came to the rescue site in poor condition and they had him neutered and restored him to better health. Gunnar is amazing except he is leaking urine! We took him to the vet and he his urine came up normal (higher water, but still no UTI) as did his blood work. He has been on Proin for incontinence since the Feb. 14th and he is still leaking. Has anyone else has this problem? The vet suggested limiting his water, which we have been doing, but it still isn't helping. Gunnar is desperate to get out of his Depends!
Thanks,
Kristi and Andy Hooper |

How much proin was he on each day? My Lucy has urinary inconsistence and he put her on 2 tablets a day. I give her 1 a day and she seems fine. Let me know if you have any questions!

| I hate to jump on your topic. but when you say leaking urine, what exactly do you mean? My Stanley drips often and I find myself wiping him sometimes when he's in the house. He also drips at the back door after going potty so I make him run around a bit to shake the excess off. I never really thought anything of it until I read this post. Now I'm wondering if I should have him checked. |

| Droplets of urine come out when Gunnar is resting or moving around the house. This happens at any time regardless of when he has been outside last. We just returned from the vet tonight and he is continuing on Proin and starting hormones. I would suggest visiting the vet if you notice this keeps happening and especially if he is leaking at rest. The vet mentioned the leaking at rest is a sign of a physical problem most likely as even a dog with a bladder infection can hold all of its urine. |

I'm still working through this with my female, but I really don't think limiting water will get you anything but a dehydrated dog! Maybe you put the water away in the late evening with a pup, but this is a dog with a full size bladder.
Corn silk did not work for us, but others have had success with it. |

| My daughters dog was doing this and he did have a urinary tract infection. They put him on meds and told my daughter to give him cranberry tablets which really worked well. |

Thanks for insight. We haven't been to the vet in a while (only because we haven't needed to thank god) but I might just make an appointment and check with the vet because he does drip even when he's just laying there.
Thanks! |

| My nearly 9 year old Weim has incontinence - she would leak when laying down for awhile. We had blood work done to make sure there was no UTI or kidney or liver problems. She is on the Proin (2 pills per day) and she does great on them, no more leaking. I may take her down to 1 pill per day and see how she does. |
