Okay, I just found Kiefer at Trader Joes!
Before Luna got sick, we were giving her a couple of tablespoons of regular plain yogurt and she did really well on it, not to mention she really liked it!
I've read about Kiefer and want to give it a try on her to see how she does... I haven't opened it yet (it seems a little more runny than yogurt, but thicker than milk) - but I was wondering how much would be a 'good' amount to give her?
There are SO many questions, and an infinite amount of answers to go with them, but I like to try and narrow things down a bit before I make a choice! |

| This stuff isn't set in stone, but I'd just poor a little over her food. |

It's sort of like Yogurt... it has more probiotics in it though.
I found it at an organic/whole foods store, haven't ever seen it in a 'regular' grocery store though. |

in Ohio, krogers carries it.
good luck on the amount - i tend to give mine 2 spoonfuls each when i am giving it out.
since lola's colitus, she has been on a dog food only diet.
i plan to re-introduce yogurt or keifer, but just havent had a quiet enough schedule that will allow me to be around to check her bombs consistently over a few days.
perhaps since keifer is a bit more runny, 3 or 4 spoonfuls would be good??? |

| 3-4 spoonfuls would be fine, but I'd just pour it. I really don't think you can really overdo this unless you are giving more kefir than food. |

| Kind of offtopic, but for myself I make my own yogurt and I give some to Scout. This is more for my health though as it has no additives in it and its cheaper than buying the no additives yogurt like FAGE. If you ever see FAGE in the grocery store pick up the one that says Total. Its the most delicious and creamy yogurt ever! Tons of fat though. I substitute it for whipped cream adding honey and a touch of vanilla. I figure it probably has the same fat as whipped cream, but the added bonus of the probiotics! Not that I can eat whipped cream though. Sorry for the total digression.... |

Yea, but it seems that if you make real Kefir, it can have a somewhat decent alcohol content. Up to 3% in some cases. LOL And the beer around here is only 3.2...
It am guessing it might be wise to stick to mass produced Kefir which is consistent from batch to batch.

jamiekuntz11, you might want to click the link I posted, or look up the word probiotics on Google. It will help you understand the benefits of yogurt and Kefir. |
