I am SO sorry to read this. I hope that your vet can figure out something non invasive to help him out a little bit.
Our family sends Jake and you lots of hugs, tail wags and butt wiggles. |

I haven't called the vet yet. He had a wonderful day yesterday. He sunned all day out side with the other dogs. He barks and romps. He doesn't know there is anything wrong yet.
It's just when he lays down at night, you can hear his breathing. And once he lays down, he coughs and hacks. He was very tired last evening from his day outside, so went right to sleep.
I'm so leery about taking him in. I am not going to let them do a lot of test or anything. Not even another chest film if they have to sedate him. The most I will let them do is take blood to check is red and white cell counts. I know that his count was fine in December. |

Lynn I just got my computer back up and found this thread. You and Jake are in our thoughts and prayers. We hope everything goes well at the Vet.

We just got back. There is bad news and good news. I let them do a chest film because they did not have to sedate him for that. There has been definite progression and without further (invasive) tests the best guess is carcinoma, a type of cancer. And the vet could hear some distress in his chest.
But he still has plenty of healthy lung volume. And he is still acting like Jake. He was alert, he was vocal, he was sniffing and obviously not ready to go anywhere yet.
So, we are going to start him on Prendesone to help with any inflammation in his lungs and help him to breathe easier. If there is going to be improvement, I should see it in 48 to 72 hours. I will give him his first dose with dinner tonight. After a week I will cut his dose in half and I have to call the vet back and let him know how Jake is doing. That will determine what we do next. He wants to add in some AB to ward off any secondary infections like pneumonia, which is what I am most afraid of with diminished lung function.
But he is still doing o.k. right now. I want him with me but I want him happy, too. He is still happy. And with any luck the medication will help him breathe easier at night.
Fingers and toes crossed.
Love you guys...

We are sending you hugs Jake. (sorry Champ made me take the kisses part out, some kind of guy thing) You are in our thought and will be praying for a good report after taking this medicine.
We are hoping it works wonders and you can get some good sleep.
Love Tammy & Champ |
