Congrats, he is adorable.
Man...I hate coming here and seeing all these cute puppies. It makes me want one, but then I remember all the work of a Weim puppy and I give Starr (she is 8 now) a big hug and tell her I love her. Pups are so cute but man are they a lot of work. |

Thank you!! We are absolutely in love with him - you are right that puppies are a lot of work (I haven't slept all through the night since we got him) but he is already learning some basic commands, he's doing well with his crate, and he is affectionate. Plus the fact that he is so darn cute!! Right now the house training is the hard part - he doesn't go at all in his crate but I can't quite figure out his potty pattern. Even when I take him out at the 'right times' sometimes he will not go outside and then 20 minutes later go in the house. We are getting it right about 50% of the time. But we are working on it! I welcome any suggestions!
His name is pronounced LESH-ee. My husband is from Russia and the Leshiy is a character in some children's fairy tales. |

Start taking him out every hour, on the hour, whenever you are home, as well as the instant he wakes up, and the instant he finishes eating (scoop him up and beeline it outside if you have to. LOL). This will minimize the oppotunity for him to have an accident, which is what you want. Each accident is a setback. Also, too much freedom can be counter-productive as well. Try tethering him to a coffee table of couch when you're in the room, and to you, when you're about in the house; for a little while, until he can be trusted with more and more freedom. If he doesn't have an opportunity to sneak over to a corner to quietly relieve himself, then it can't happen!
Good luck! |

Cool, thanks! It does seem to happen when I get distracted, even if only for a couple of minutes. I'll start trying this right away. Also seems like it will cut down on some of the random chewing as well. It is amazing the things he can find to chew on - even though I tried to puppy proof the house before he came home.
HA! It worked!! While I was sitting here writing this post at the computer he was about to pee and I picked him up and RAN outside One less accident in the house. |
