This is beginning to get to me...
Whenever I try to pet Cooper, my first boy, Indy comes flying in and butts in, trying to push herself between him and me. When I don't respond, she begins to nip Cooper and paw/jump him. I guess she's trying to drive him away.
I'm getting worried about the negative associations for him, and although he won't back down, they get into this dominance power struggle wrestling and Cooper does not get his lovin'.
Been ignoring it, telling her no, refusing to pet her unless she sits - the same things I do when she has her frenzied greeting behavior (which is similar, just add some nipping). I want to say the nipping is not biting, it begins with nibbling under the neck, very lover-like, but gets out of hand as it goes on.
So what do I try now? |

I have the same problem with Kam & Glacier, except G is much older and her body really can't take all the rough housing from Kam. I've been sort of punishing Kam for behaving that way. He needs to learn that he can't just pounce on her whenever HE feels like it (he could really hurt her). Things are improving. I just let Kam know with a firm NO, a pointed finger, then he goes in his crate for a time out.
Hope this helps! |

| Scout always buts in on the other dogs' affection and Silkie will actually go after Jake if she thinks he is getting attention in lieu of her...but I've learned to handle her. |

| Goliath does that too, pushes his big old self between anyone who comes in and shows Daisy the least bit of attention. They work it out amongst them. Some people will pat Goliath too, others push him away and tell him to wait his turn. I let them go with the flow, they'll learn their hierarchy. |

I'm trying the wait your turn (well, I was before too, but not so successfully) and trying to be patient about it. I'm also sneaking away with Cooper to give him some secret attention. Crazy but true! |
