Jake is definitely having some breathing issues. It becomes more apparent in the quiet, calm of night. He is able to sleep and doesn't seem distressed and he still wants to eat and comes running if the pantry door is opened. That's where the dog treats are.
Maybe I'll take him in just to see if there is anything that can be done medication wise to make him more comfortable.

| I wish I could just hug you! It's so hard to see your baby sick and you feel like you can't do anything. I don't think there could be any harm with checking into medication to help his breathing. I hope that there is something you could use. I know we say it so often around here, but maybe try some arnica to see if that helps. I take it when my bronchitis acts up and it helps me to breathe. It's a stretch but maybe worth trying. You're still in my prayers and thoughts and Scoot and Sadie still send warm sloppy kisses. |

Aw, poor Jake! A "snowstorm" (or white out) can be lots of things--topping the list are pneumonia and interstitial lung disease (think emphysema-like symptoms). Some steroids can help the symptoms if the latter is the case. (2 cents from the thoracic ICU nurse!) I hope he feels better!
Slobbery kisses from Maya, Sage & Macy! |

During the day he seems fine. It's when we lay down at night that I can hear every rattle and wheeze he makes. He has been coughing and hacking a bit more. Right now, he is sound asleep beside me and it just seems like his exhale is "heavy" for lack of a better way to describe it.
I just don't want him to hurt. He still seems fine and happy. I am going to take it a day at a time. He gave me scare back in Feb or Mar. Maybe this time it's just going to last a little longer. Hopefully, we will be having this same conversation again in the Spring.
I don't know what I would do without you guys. Thank you for caring and for being here for me.
Love you all,
Lynn |

I don't think he's holding fluid. He pees plenty and there is no swelling and the cough isn't wet and he doesn't have a fever.
I am going to call and make an appointment today just to discuss non invasive treatments for him. I'm a little afraid to take him in, just because my vet is never terribly encouraging. And I want to see the woman that owns the place, Nancy Brown. She is an oncologist (sp?).
He's not in pain, I would know if he was. He still wants to be cuddled, his tail wags, and he's still mooching like a champ. I never thought I would be HAPPY to have one of my dogs begging for my food. I've been giving in to him lately..
Oh, and he let me use the pedicure on him yesterday.
Keep the well wishes coming... |
