Jager barks and howls at men

Jager has started barking and howling at men (apparently females are ok) when I take him for a walk or go anywhere. He only does this when I am not with my boyfriend so I know he trying to protect me. Mostly everyone just laughs at him because he is still a puppy and is so cute, but i know he is going to get bigger and it will not be so cute anymore.
I tell him to stop barking but he doesn't hear me at all he is so focused. Any suggestions?

Have you tried reassuring him that the stranger is ok?

Have you done a lot of socialization? Does it matter how close the men are to you? Do you yourself get nervous?

charlie barks at men who he doesn't like or come too close to me, not all men i think he can sense when somethings wrong. he really doesn't like drunk people i don't know why. he isn't aggressive towards them he just backs away and barks like mad until they leave.
one man who was under the influence walked passed and encouraged him to come closer (this took a while) and once charlie got there he calmed down and enjoyed a stroke.

He is extremely Socialized.
It is guys he sees that are like 100 feet away when we are walking, and once they start talking to him and I move closer to socialze he starts getting really excited and wiggles his tail and everything is fine. If I pull up to a drive thru or a gas station he goes crazy barking and howling at people walking by or in the window.

Perhaps some reassurance when they are far away will in time help him get over it.

Otherwise, you could tell him NO, and if he doesn't respond you can hold his muzzle and tell him NO again.
