Jack - The Ultimate Weimer Crimer

Postby OwnedByWeims » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:59 pm

I do not know what has gotten into Jack lately... but OMG.

It started with a package of fudge filled oreo's... he ate the entire package while the kids and I ran out to the store (my fault, I forgot to put them away).

Then he takes these cute V-Day cookies ~ Shortbread with (again) chocolate that my husband bought me as a little "I love you" and ate them while I was sleeping

Then I replace the fudge oreo's, and he eats the entire package again and this time I have no idea how he got to them as they were on top of the fridge. (Step stool by fridge has been relocated)

THEN TODAY!! He destroyed my Grandmothers biscotti jar that she had given me. Jack has NEVER bothered that cookie jar and today I come home to find it in pieces on my floor..

I don't know if this is jealousy or a cookie addiction or both but someone please help!!! The vet bills are piling up due to his chocolate obsession, and now my Grandmothers biscotti jar... I'm ready to ring his neck (not that I will, but I'm definitely mad and he knows it as he's hiding under my bed)

Normally he's so well behaved but lately between the cookies, now the biscotti jar, and his normal Weimaraner Anticts, I just don't know what to do with him.

Anyone else have a Weim thats cuckoo for cookies? And not just any cookies, but chocolate cookies! I've never seen behavior like this so any advice is welcome :(

LOL Meredith met Pearl aka The Squirrel this weekend. She also saw what happens if I leave any food out on the counter. I had a WHOLE banana bread wrapped on the counter (way at the back). Pearl got it. She did a very neat job with the aluminium foil but there were crumbs in the dining room and living room

Oh yea, I love how they can gently unwrap anything to ensure the integrity of the food is maintained, lol but then they eat like slobs :)

I've heard that once a dog gets chocolate, then they just want it even more. So even if it doesn't hurt them the first time, they become addicts and that's what hurts them. I have no idea if this is true or not but that's what I've heard. Maybe he's become a chocoholic?

 I'm laughing because Pearl the Squirrel is so funny and because you should know better! Pearl and Milo are bread addicts! Anything bread, Milo loves. And he got it from his momma!

Uh oh!! I did also hear the thing about becoming addicted to chocolate. You'll have to be extra careful from now on. Especially seeing as he managed to get the cookies off the top shelf! Naughty boy.

Oh no, it's not just yours either. I came home to Ella with a bag of cat food in her crate. Not kibble cat food but freeze dried "Artisan" cat food. So when I got home there was powder all over her face as well as her bed and the room

Jack was laughing when you brought in the 2nd package of Oreos...."thanks mom"....

Your vet was laughing when you paid the bill - chocolate is a stimulant and not fatal unless consumed in large amounts, very large...

Now I go back to trying to Dremel Forrest's nails, he's laughing at me...thanks for the break and getting to feel someone else's pain...

These little food addicts!

I had to laugh... a few weeks ago my 7 year old got up from the table in the middle of lunch to use the bathroom and pushed his food to the middle of the table. My 9 year old hasn't learned yet. Sunday he got up to go to the fridge and when he turned around, his last two bagel bites had disappeared. He was not happy!

From Jack's point of view, I think I would try for the yummy snacks again too! Perhaps if he found something tasty he thought it was worth it to keep trying to find more? Kind of like he rewarded himself for his behavior. He did it once, why not try again. Maybe put him on a long leash and do some "retraining" on the counter surfing thing. Set him up and teach him that is a no-no. Good luck though. Tilly "checks out" the counter and sink as soon as anyone gives her the chance. Sometimes she strikes it lucky! My husband doesn't understand why she keeps trying when we keep correcting her. I figured if she finds a corn flake in the sink once a week, she is going to check it every day, just in case. In the meantime, good luck hiding the cookies. Maybe keep them in your car?!

Oh no! This made me think of the song *Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar* Roxy is famous for stealing food around here when the kiddos walk away from the table. She is crazy for french fries and when she was around three months she stole my sons whole fry off the table. I think these Weims of ours know what they are doing. I have to be very careful when I make crescent rolls as I had them on the counter not cooked yet, I turned around to open the oven and just in a second two were missing and I heard Roxy licking her chops! That is crazy that Jack got them off the fridge! We keep our Oreo's up in the cupboard way on the top. Good luck finding a good hiding spot for those yummie treats that Jack loves. :)

So sorry about your Biscotti jar!

Kaiser is that way with butter!! If I leave a stick to soften or if I have some on the counter getting ready for dinner guests it will be GONE ! I`ve been baking before and turned around( I have a small kitchen) to add it to my kitchenade mixer and he has dissappeared. He puts himself in "time out" and hides in my walk in closet when he is ashamed.....LOL

LOL, yep now I understand where the name came from! She did a nice job unwrapping the bread! Maya got half a pizza last night. I guess the peppers didn't deter her!

Too funny that Jack is the "Weimar Crimer"! You just gotta love these dogs. Even when they are bad, bad, bad!

My guys, too! Butter and parmesan cheese...we seem to forget to put those away every single time. "But mom, it makes my coat soooo shiny!"

I can totally relate to your situation. Nothing is safe in my house. I have a cat who is addicted to bread (so I already had to hide that) and now my weim, Kain, gets into absolutely anything that is not hidden under lock and key. I can't even think of all the things I've come home to find, but I have come home to find my paper towels all over the house, the recycle bin totally emptied and everything in it shredded all over the house, my dishes and dirty clothes strewn all over the house, trash everywhere, bagels eaten (plastic and all) - from on top of my china cabinet. I have no idea how he manages to get some of the stuff that he does, but he's very talented and determined. I try to hide everything because I'm sure if I left cookies out he'd eat those too. I came home once and he'd torn open a bag of flour, from a shelf over my cabinets (I think the cat might have helped him with that one), and had it spread all over the kitchen floor and must have taken a drink of water after he did it and so had pretty much made a paste of it. He was covered in it and so was my kitchen - but I couldn't help but laugh when I came home to find him with white paste all over his face :)

I don't know how to stop his behaviors, we just try to hide anything of value so he doesn't have the chance to eat it.
